Owner description: Just a short drive from Philadelphia, The Pearl S. Buck House promotes the legacy of author and humanitarian, Pearl S. Buck.As you walk through her pre-1825 Pennsylvania stone farmhouse, you will learn her life history, which began in childhood as a daughter of missionary parents in China and ended as a Pulitzer and Nobel-prize winning author. One of just a few national historic landmarks that uphold a woman's legacy, the intact collection includes the typewriter she used to write The Good Earth. Serene paths lead to her gravesite. Exhibit gallery displays her numerous awards including the Nobel prize. International gift shop on location. Pair a tour with a book discussion. “Take the Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2013

Took the tour of the newly renovated Pearl S Buck house yesterday. What a fascinating display of how a person can turn a hardship into a legacy. Simply speaking, a daughter of missionaries was raised in China. She matured, married, and gave birth to a special needs child who required residential placement outside of the home. Results of the birth made it impossible for Pearl Buck to give birth again so after a divorce and second marriage she adopted children. From the depths and realities of those life experiences came an award winning and best selling novel, The Good Earth, and an International Adoption Agency.

The property is beautiful both inside and out and our tour guide gave many details about life inside with a slight lean toward how one can contribute and support the foundation. My companion and I were the only ones on the tour on this day which was scheduled to last for an hour and half. Nice gift shop and very nice staff. $12.00 for an adult to enter.

“She was a great writer”

It was a thrill to be inside one of the great writer's home. This is where she worked and you can see her desk, typewriter and her living quarters. As a writer, I found this very interesting.

“A Surprise Find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2012

Most people would not think of finding the estate of Pearl S. Buck in this area. The home has been restored to its original condition furniture and all. We were amazed at the number of awards and recognition she received during her life. The estate also includes a wonderful large gift shop with items from the orient.

Several organizations decorate for tje holidays. We enjoyed an oriental buffet while there that added some ambience to the tour.
Pearl Buck was a true humanitarian and her writings were good as well. A great tour and great folks who run it.
