We have dined at this restaurant several times and enjoyed the food. While the portion size has typically been modest, last night it shrank to nearly invisible.

The crab and crawfish special was served in a tiny ramekin, and the seafood was indistinguishable from its tasteless sauce. The skate millefeuille had perhaps two ounces of fish sitting between small gobs of spinach. A little dollop of salmon tartar came with one lettuce leaf. And, these were the main course. It seems clear that instead of raising prices, they have skimped elsewhere.

Worse, a party of ten arrived to have drinks at the bar before moving to their table. Because they were on top of us and we couldn't hold a reasonable conversation, I asked to be moved to another table -- not once, but twice. Nothing. There were empty tables (that remained empty), and it would have been very easy to accommodate our request.

It's a shame they have so little regard for their customers. It makes no sense. Although we used to look forward to going to Slate Bleu, we will never return nor recommend it to anyone.

We have eaten here frequently over the past 7 years and it still remains one of our favorites. The dishes are made to order and very fresh. The French flair is a welcome change to the normal restaurant fare in the area. The service is impeccable and up beat with a "can do" attitude. The overall place is very cozy and warm. The husband (chef) and wife (hostess) team do an outstanding job.

Slate Bleu is our favorite place to eat in Doylestown. We love the bistro plates which are wonderful sizes to keep us from overeating and are lower in price. The food is excellent and an interesting variety. My personal favorites are Scallops with mushroom risotto and the profiteroles for dessert. All the salad choices are delicious. The casual but sophisticated atmosphere is perfect for any occasion.

We've been coming to Slate Bleu for years and never been disappointed—with a group, another couple, or just the two of us at the bar. It's at the top of our rotation of Doylestown favorites (including Honey, Domani Star and Il Melograno) because of its consistency, freshness and quality. It's sophisticated but hardly snooty; it's quiet along the banquettes but lively and convivial at the bar; it's a French menu but there's something for everyone.

As I understand it, the chef was the top guy at La Grenouille in NYC before opening up his own place, and it shows in everything from the pike quenelles (not always on the menu) to the steak frites. They adjusted the menu a couple of years ago and we find the "small plates" to be perfect for dinner and a remarkable value. Desserts are wonderful, from the simple sorbets to the impressive souffles.

We urge you to ignore any negative reviews, which seem to come from a parallel universe we've never seen. We've always found the service friendly and attentive, and love the little touches like the amuse-bouches to start and little chocolate treats at the end.

If you're a visitor to Doylestown casting around for a place to eat, you cannot go wrong. Make a reservation for a nice tablecloth dinner, or take a seat at the bar for a casual bite. It's where we locals go, and you'll quickly find out why.

Slate Bleu is a very classy, pleasant restaurant. it is a lovely place to have a special occasion meal. The service is always very good, and the food is delicious and very well presented. The bar is a more casual, less formal place to eat your meal, if that appeals to you.
Go on Bastille Day (July 14)! They always do something special.
It is delightfully different than the other restaurants in Doylestown, n'est- ce pas?
