“nice place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Nice day trip from NYC. Our two-year-old had a blast and although we only spent 2.5 hours there, you could easily spend a whole day in the center. We visited on a Saturday and the place was not overly crowded at all. Nice play structure/in-door gym at the top floor. Only thing we didn't like was the smell of melted crayons on the top two floors but everything else was great!

“Great Activities but poor organization & service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

We waited months to go to the Crayola Factory aka Crayola Experience as it was being remodeled last year. We finally got there last week. Getting there was easy, getting tickets also easy.
The place is decorated in fun colors and characters, the kids (ages 3 - 6 1/2) were thrilled to be there. They were excited at each stop in our 4 floor adventure.
It started off well, but then we started to notice that everything was constantly breaking. For example, the "make your own crayon labels" - we were in that area twice throughout the day and there was always one or two machines broken. What a dissapointment to have my child insert his token, get the label done and.....nothing comes out, it resets itself. The "make your own marker" machine, same thing, one or two had to get serviced, continuously. Overall, each "attraction" we did was a rediculous wait, mainly due to lack of people working (probably off fixing broken machines) or the level of enthusiasm to be working and partly due to poor organization. Another example, on the 4th floor you can color with melted crayons.....problem, there were no melted crayons in the places where they should be, just old crummy left overs. There was no one assigned to this area to maintain it. Then, molding crayons was adorable, however, there were about 20 machines and the wait was rediculously long while only half were being used. Why? well, because regardless of which shape the person in line was waiting for, the attendant held up the line if the shape that the first person in line wanted was not yet available, even if the rest of the line wanted another shape - poor organization.

Recommendation - start at the top floor and work your way down as you do not want to run out of crayons on the top floor with no one around to refill them. Also, heat rises, by the afternoon, it was a thousand degrees up there (in November!), with the melted crayons area, burning without crayons and smoke in the air, not only was it hot but poor air quality.

We also paid additionally to do the puffy paint. It was very cute but no instruction or help. Just here is your stuff, go do it and you can dry it over there. no one working the drying machine. I had to constantly watch our things as others would come by and start using them, simply because they were on a table - not a designated space for this acitivity which is not included in the regular admission price.

Another observation - the cafe - here, we waited on line for 30 minutes, to find out we waited for the pizza ordering. Since we wanted other items, we could have gone forward, however, with the line out the door, you are to think that the wait is for any item. Plus, the food is less than average.

Recommendation - bring lunch or get your hand stamped and venture out for another quicker and tastier option

Overall - this place is very cute with lots of activities included in the price. Don't add on the extra activities as they are both not worth the extra amount and the people designated to working them could not care less. The airbrushing (extra $) was an absolute joke. the airbrushing sprays were 50% broken (shocker!)

My number one complaint is the lack of qualified, friendly and proper amount of persons working at this place. If I had driven more than hour to get here for the experience we had, I would have rated this much less.

“Great for Winter Activities”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2013

This new remodeled place is great, we visit the Crayola "experience" every year at least 3 times a year. My kids love to pain and using all the Crayola products. The new Experience has really great new attractions, like Marker maker, Make your own Crayon and you can even name your own Crayon and so much more.
My kids LOVE this place; is very reasonably prices and because of that it can be crowded at times but you are in there for at least 6 hours!! Also, this place is great for kids yournger than 9 years. If older they could get a little bored.

“New additions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

Our last visit was in 2011 when it was called the Crayola Factory and my daughter was 4. We weren't sure we would go back again after that visit. It was fun but wasn't sure it warranted another 1.5 hour drive. We wanted to visit the area again so decided to go. I'm glad we did. They added a bunch of new things and my daugther really enjoyed them. They give you tokens that you can redeem for special crayons, markers and modeling clay. We got 9 (3 each for the 3 of us) and you can purchase more. She enjoyed making personalized labels for her crayons and watching the machines make markers. The new additions was the 4th floor with the spin art and melted crayons into objects. That was a lot of fun. Go as early as you can because it gets really crowded as the day goes on. We arrived at 10:30 and when we were leaving at 1 to get lunch, it was packed.
