Description: To make reservations, please visit us on Open Table! Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation - Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly. Authenticity was crucial - only without the sea breeze, gulls and scent of saltwater. Lighthouses and other nautical decor highlight the ambience to create a coastal dining experience like none other in the greater Lehigh Valley. Our mission is to provide a great place for our employees to work, enabling them to prepare and serve delicious food in a warm, friendly and efficient manner. We want to assure you, our guest, of a memorable visit and encourage you to tell your friends and return often. Your satisfaction is guaranteed or we will make suitable amends.

Excellent Seafood and service. I don't understand the complaints on yelp. $30 fixed price meal was a bargain! Jumbo shrimp cocktail or lobster balls followed by 2 jumbo crab cakes or broiled/fried seafood platter. All was excellent. Keylime pie or chocolate cake or bread pudding for dessert. Service was very good. We will be back.

If you adore "old school" places which serve seafood (and that is you only criterium), well, this may be the place for you. The ambiance is sad, the service was reminiscent of Stalinist Russia, and the prices inflated for the quality of the meals. It's distressing that this place receives so many high ratings. I honestly can't explain it. I tried to understand it while I was there.....and now my head hurts. I think people need to get out more.

Anyway, not to completely disparage the place, it does an adequate job; thus its rating.

We had not been to Marblehead in about 5 years (had previously not been that impressed), but we were in the mood for seafood close to home, pulled up their menu online, and decided to give it another go.

So many options on this menu, as well as the catch of the day with interesting sauces/toppings. We kept it simple this time, ordering the key west tilapia and patriot's fish and chips. The food was very good. We shared the steamed edamame; the dipping sauces (zesty teriyaki/pinot grigio aioli) brought this appetizer to life...delicious! Also shared a bowl of the lobster bisque, which honestly was not as "lobstery" as it could have been. It tasted more like a creamy butter bisque (not such a bad thing). Would try the soup again, but next time add the shot of sherry for $1.00, and hope for a little more of a lobster taste.

What really stood out at Marblehead was the service. Our server Jamie was friendly and attentive, and kept things simple. No "show". Everything in this restaurant seemed to be moving at the perfect pace. No long waits, but no rush either. Reservations are not required, but may be a good idea on the weekends. Very relaxing dining atmosphere...you can go here for a special occassion or a casual dinner out. We will be back!

Consistently excellent seafood, but at least half of my family/friend group who eat here regularly don't eat seafood at all, and enjoy the food just as much. Far better quality than some chain-type restaurants, and extraordinary prices if you watch website (or check menu) for specials. Family who come from Florida visit this restaurant regularly on trips to the Lehigh Valley. Appetizers, soups and salads are great for lunch or light dinner on the bar. Kitchen accommodates requests. Altogether, a wonderful experience.

We took our son to the Marblehead Chowder House to celebrate his 32nd birthday. His fist dining experience there. He was impressed with the many seafood choices, and he totally enjoyed his appetizers, main course, dessert and drink. I enjoyed the crab pierogies ... Delicious!
