Loved this inn and its location. Large well appointed room. Very clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant - both dinner and breakfast - was delicious. Pub was comfortable and warm and seemed to be the local gathering place. They did my washing for me for £5 which was a huge help for light packers. Better still, Andy changed my flat tire for me. Life saver. Wish I could have stayed more than one night.

We spent a couple of nights there in November and were absolutely delighted. The rooms are well decorated, warm, very comfortable and quiet at night. The restaurant food is excellent with a good choice and is reasonably priced. Breakfast - plenty of choice. We were warmly welcomed by the charming young lady in the bar and nothing was any trouble. All staff members were very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed the happy banter with the local guys in the bar. This place is a bit off the beaten track but was exactly what we wanted and will definitely be our first choice when we return to the area in the Spring.

Room Tip: Rooms are not large but are perfectly adequate. Room 2 is a nice double.

We were looking for an intimate place to stay in Northumberland that is close to Hadrian's Wall, and the Red Lion was just what we were looking for. Newbrough is a picturesque village that's "off the beaten track" despite being on one of the main Roman roads to the Wall. The building is very old, but that's what we were looking for, and the rooms are well maintained. The rooms are rather small, but comfortable. There is no elevator to the rooms on the upper floor and the stairs are narrow, so large luggage and heavy luggage may be a challenge. The service was very friendly and we enjoyed a few pints in the pub as well as the excellent dinner and breakfast.

Spent one night at The Red Lion towards the end of August and was delighted with the place ! On arrival, mid afternoon went into the Bar and was warmly received by the young lady serving drinks - she was well versed in who was expected - I was part of a larger cycling group, and she proceeded to explain that a table had been reserved for our dinners even though we had not pre booked. In the event that was a real bonus as the restaurant proved to be extremely popular and was full by 8pm ! The meal that evening was excellent with a broad range of options : starters, mains, sweets and wines - could not have been better. Breakfast was equally good and we departed with a firm intention to visit again.

Not luxurious, but very comfortable, clean, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast plentiful and included service with a smile. Would stay again as I had a great sleep in a very comfortable bed. Wifi a little intermittent and TV broke up a bit, but not a great problem. Convenient for Hexham.

Room Tip: Our room was quiet despite overlooking the street
