Good local ales and a good menu. There were three of us, including a vegetarian and we all enjoyed our meals very much

We stayed overnight here (Easter Day 2014) and had dinner and breakfast and we were delighted with every aspect. The pub is small but welcoming, the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent - the steaks in particular were perfectly cooked. The room (which was a family room with a separate bed for our boy) was very comfortable and we would happily stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay here during the Easter break. Although we arrived later than expected and well after the kitchen was closed, the friendly lady behind the bar kindly made us some sandwiches and soup, which was greatly appreciated after a long day on the road. There is also a nice pub with a good choice of drinks and atmosphere. The rooms were clean, modern and quiet. Breakfast the next day was also lovely. The Red Lion is close to Hadrian's Wall, which made exploring the region very practical. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to our friends. Anna & Guillaume

We stayed and ate here on our second night of hiking along Hadrians wall and we really enjoyed our experience. The room was comfortable and warm (which helped dry our wet clothes!) and the food at both dinner and breakfast was excellent.

The B&B also kindly picked us up and dropped us off at the Roman Fort of Chester which is about a 5 minute drive.... But probably a 30 minute walk or so!

I would definitely recommend a visit if in the area... Or hiking Hadrians Wall.

Visited the red lion after reading the fabulous reviews on here and was sadly disappointed. Ordered drinks and was told it was steak night! However you can only have steak night or steak and catch of the day night if you don't have any choice. My partner ordered steak but didn't have a choice, ribeye was the order of the day, knowing I was only getting the catch of the day I proceeded to order this which was seabass. As my partner wanted chips with his steak we were informed that the steak night deal wasn't valid, it was only valid with veg? My partner chose not to have veg but I did and was amused to get califlower and carrots with seabass. The food was average no complaints until we came to pay. As we didn't qualify for steak night two meals for £25 due to my partner having chips instead of veg... Wait for it our meal was £38? Expensive chips and well over priced bar food
