The Castle is terrific all the history and richness of decor you would hope to see. The Drawing room is very elegant but the window seat is so stained and faded and needs replacing straight away. Only one staff member seems capable of taking orders so you do so over drinks. The drinks trays are filthy and the other staff delivering things don't seem to know table numbers or what things are so very hit and miss. You no sooner get comfortable and then they make you move to the dining room for dinner service. Again, you walk in - no-one seems to know where you should go and you have to pre-order things so it seems a bit forced and staged. One of the waitresses kept walking through the dining room and holding onto the tables as she passed. It was quite disconcerting. Not sure if she is unbalanced or what? Food was ok, again would have expected better for the rave the website gives it. But really the food is fine, nice even but the stilted service creates an uncomfortable feeling in the dining room so we won't dine again on our 4 night stay.
Breakfast is the same - total lack of attention to detail. Tables missing cruets, they bring coffee when you asked for tea, menus are tatty looking, plastic is dirty and ripped, tables are awkwardly arranged so you look straight into others tables. Yes, I've worked in hospitality for 25 years so i notice these things perhaps more than others but good service in a place of this calibre should be a given. You can see this could be a real gem in the hands of good management.
