“Great Hotel, minor lapse.”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, the setting is absolutely superb. Our room
was in the Castle View building just a very short walk to the main castle, it was a suite i.e. large room with a good seating area. It was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was one of the very best I have come across in any hotel. It had both a bath and a separate shower which was extremely powerful.
The minor lapse was that the mini bar had clearly not been checked and items were missing, I reported this to Reception and was promised that someone would be over with the missing items, four hours later they had not arrived. I went to Reception, told the Receptionist, whose first words were 'it wasn't me'. No apology. The bar was then replenished.
The Restaurant is superb, the staff are amongst the most discreetly attentive I have come across. The food is outstandingly good, well served and well presented .At £42.50 for the table d'hote menu it is not cheap but it is certainly good value.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I (sound like the Queen!!) stayed here on Sunday night to celebrate my birthday and had a fabulous time. We stayed in a Castle View room which was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and spacious and very welcoming. The en-suite bathroom was large and spotlessly clean (very important for a bathroom I think) We spent time in the Castle itself and were very impressed with the whole experience. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous, nothing was too much trouble for them. The grounds are so peaceful and tranquil with beautiful peacocks roaming freely. Spectacular venue and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Can only say "Enjoy your stay"

Dear Joan - Many thanks for taking the time to post your review of your recent stay - I am genuinely delighted that you enjoyed your stay - the Peacocks have been a feature of the grounds for several years and so many guests are enchanted by them and especially when they have all their plumage - I look forward to welcoming you back to Langley - Best regards - Anton

We stayed here for one night in October 2013 for our anniversary. The Castle is beautiful, a real Castle, with seven foot deep window seats, suits of armour, the works. The décor is lush and the rooms are amazing. We stayed in a Castle room, the Cadwallader, with a beautiful four poster bed, bigger than I have ever seen, and luxurious décor. It is a little bit of a sharp walk, up a small spiral staircase, but there is a lift you can request the use of, although we didn't bother.

The restaurant was beautiful and very cosy, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced for such a beautiful location. It was nice to sit in the grand drawing room in one of the large comfy sofas near the fire for a drink and complimentary appetisers. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, especially our young waitress who seemed a little nervous but she did a fabulous job!

The only bad part of the stay was having to leave on the Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast.

Room Tip: It might be a little more expensive but the castle rooms are well worth it.

Dear Linds - I am most appreciative of the comments you made following your recent stay - The Castle is a Castle, complete with spiral staircases - but these contribute to the authenticity of staying in a genuine Castle - but for those not able to manage the stairs, we do have the service lift to enable access to all levels of the Castle. I look forward to welcoming you back to Langley on another occasion - Best regards - Anton

I booked this little stay through a Groupon voucher, and I can honestly say I was not disappointed. This hotel is beautiful, luxurious and peaceful. The staff are outstanding and so much attention to detail is looked at. My little boy was over the moon staying in a real life castle, and I am sure this short stay will stay with him for a long time! The food is delicious and again, nothing is too much trouble. If I had to some this trip in one word, I would say outstanding

Let me start with the positives in that this is a lovely quaint castle hotel where the public rooms are excellent in terms of their grandeur. Both the waiting and restaurant staff provided good friendly and helpful service and the food was to a very high standard. However these high standards were sadly lacking with the front of house staff. We had booked the Percy suite on the recommendation of friends directly with the hotel and had written confirmation that this was the suite we booked however upon arrival we were told the suite had been overbooked and we were no longer able to have the suite. Given they had our contact details no mention of this overbooking had been made prior to our arrival. We then had the option from the General Manager of a take it or leave it suggestion to go to the only other room available the Tinsdale suite which having travelled a distance to get to the hotel we accepted reluctantly. We did not realise that this room was part of the fire escape corridor for the hotel and had a very nice green light on permanently above the second door in the room leading on to the fire escape along with the added benefit of paper thin walls in which every noise and scream could be heard in the next room. I have been very fortunate in staying in luxury hotels throughout the world and this is the poorest front of house experience I have ever had. If a hotel is unable to fulfil its written agreement bearing in mind this hotel is taking bookings for specific named suites it's customary to offer its customers either an upgrade or something other to sweeten the pill in this case it was take or leave it we don't care.

Room Tip: Check before hand that you are definitely getting the suite you booked

Dear Mr.Crosbie - I would thank you for taking the time to post your review - whilst I am pleased that you enjoyed the food and service I am disappointed regarding the issue with your room - We had another guest in the Percy Room and only discovered that the room was actually booked for 2 nights on that morning - As such I had no opportunity to contact you in advance - I took the decision to move you to the Tindale Room - in saying that, these rooms are side by side, identical in size, identical in the configuration of the room, identical bathrooms, both rooms with a window seat, both overlooking the same lawns and views - The communicating door in the room (which does form part of a fire escape), leads into the Percy room - I honestly did not feel that this would have been a problem - I certainly would not have wished to show any lack of concern or care regarding your reservation - Had I been able to offer an alternative room I would have done so but we were fully booked - These 2 rooms are exactly the same grade and tariff - I would apologise if you felt you were getting an inferior room, but that was not the case - Best regards Anton

Stayed here for 1 night for a celebration and was blown away by this magical place. Our room and the public areas were breathtaking and the food excellent too. The staff also make this a special hotel as despite the opulence of the setting it was not pretentious in the slightest. Cant recommend it highly enough!

Unless you are staying in the 'Radcliffe suite' or 'Greenwich suite' I do not see how the price tag is justified - even these two rooms are questionable. I have to admit, after seeing some of the other castle rooms, I was glad I had one of these as I would have been devistated paying £280 for an overnight stay in any other room. I stay in 4 and 5 star hotels on a regular basis and feel these rooms, even considering the location and the overall nature of the hotel, are very overpriced.

The food was amazing, most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is also amazing. Despite my feelings on the room costs I am considering this as a wedding venue. I just hope my friends and relatives do not mind not being able to stay over as I know the majority of them would be unable to pay the costs of the rooms.

If the rooms were a more reasonable price (especially given we are in a recession) I would without a doubt be rating this hotel a 5.

Room Tip: In the castle, I would advise booking the Radcliffe or the Greenwich suite.

Dear LS - Thank you for your recent review - I am delighted that you enjoyed the food and the location and your warm comments about the staff - I am, of course, concerned to read your comments regarding our rates - We have rooms from only £77.50 per person and all our rates compare very favourably with other four star hotels in the region and even more so against other areas - our premier feature rooms, have 4 poster beds, window seats set into 7ft thick walls private sauna etc - My goal is to be able to provide value for money based on quality which I believe we are totaly capable of achieving - Despite the recession, we have continued to invest substantialy in the Castle and maintain the quality of furnishings and fittings throughout. If you wish to progress your plans for your wedding, please contact me personaly at the castle and I would be delighted to discuss the various options and see how i can be able to enhance and add value throughout - Best Regards
