Run by Allegeny County, this farm allows children of all ages to get up close to the animals. There are also picnic groves, and a spray park for summer fun.

This is a county park on the Orange Belt in The Pittsburgh Area just outside the Little Boston area in Elizabeth,PA. It includes a working farm with animals and a garden including herbs. It is a great place to walk under the tall old trees with your children and grandchildren. They have recently added a nice water spray park and very recently opened a playground with the foam type underlayment for safety. Our families favorite part is the multitude of pavilions with nice sized grills and multiple trash cans that make large group affairs very easy. I also noted on August 3,2012 that they have added reservation signs to the pavilions so that you don't have to rush out at dawn on the day of your event to avoid having to move people out of your pavilion on the day of your rental. The flowers are lovely and there always seems to be someone working there that can answer your kids questions on the animals and plants. Be prepared to stop quick on entering the park as the geese and ducks have a path right accross the entrance and you sometimes have a wait as family qroups are crossing. Saw two fawns in the park the same day and butterflies and birds galore. I so love this place and am proud to know that my tax dollars help make it possible. Take bread to feed the ducks only. The rest of the animals are on special diets. Someone better tell the very friendly sheep though. They joined us as we sat at picnic tables near the park office and I think they may have stollen a bite or two of a peanut butter cookie right out of a two year olds hand. The kids went nuts when one of the sheep actually came under the table to look for bread crumbs from our lunch. I think my 6 year old grand daughter wants to be a farmer now.Two possible negatives, they only have porta-potties except at the rest room at the farm entrance and if you forgot something from home it is quite a drive to find a local store, even fast food places are quite a trip so plan to carry in lunch and drinks. There are water fountains and vending machines near one of the barns. This park is picking up patronage but even on the fourth of July this year I think my reservation for a pavilion was one of the only ones. The water parks are busy but most days it is pretty quiet out here.
