“First time at a B&B”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

Was in PA for a business trip and at the last minute, our original plans fell through and we found ourselves with a couple of extra days to spend sightseeing....had never been to the Lancaster area and found Hurst House on the web. Saw the picture of the house and was sold! The views from both the front and back of the property are breathtaking....

Bert and Rich were simply spectacular hosts. They showed us around and treated us as family..We stayed in the Victorian Rose room, which had a king bed (very comfortable) and was decorated beautifully (as is the entire house and land). There are five rooms to choose from and each one comes with its own private bath and balcony. Complimentary Wifi is available and a sitting area sits on the second floor (next to the elevator) with snacks, a place to relax and lots of literature about things to do.

A wonderful breakfast was prepared for us and we sat in the dining room enjoying the company of eight other guests we had never met...a couple of which appeared to be repeat customers.

Unfortunately, they were only able to accommodate us for the one night (but, booking at the last minute, I was simply thrilled this was even available) and we never got the opportunity to enjoy the rocking chairs on the back patio or explore the land on the backside of the property. The Hurst House exceeded all of our expectations and has "set the bar" for any other bed and breakfast experiences we might have....we only got to do about a third of what we wanted to so we definitely want to come back to the area....but I will make sure The Hurst House has availability first!

We only spent two nights at Hurst House but immediately felt at home. This is a beautiful, new Victorian that was built with TLC by the owners - Bert and Rich. Upon arrival got the grand tour by the Inn sitters (Bert and Rich having flown the coup for a few days). Our stay was in the Flower Garden room, overlooking the countryside. It was a large and beautifully decorated room. Our next stay we will request one of the rooms overlooking the pond just for a different view. The breakfast was delicious and morning prayer and conversation with the other guests good to the point where we all had to excuse ourselves to get on with our day. It was nice returning in the evening and going into the "gathering room" to meet with other guests and have an evening snack and a cup of tea or coffee. We came here to celebrate my birthday and I was given a bottle of sparkling grape juice to celebrate with. The innkeepers go out of their way to please. We did get to meet Freddie the dog before leaving and he certainly was entertaining. This will be on our "List of Favorites" for Amish Country travel. Thanks Bert and Rich for welcoming us into your home.

We just got home from a one night stay at Hurst House. It's the best B&B I have ever visited. The house is enormous and yet homey feeling. It has all the charm of a classic Victorian but with all of the modern comforts, as it is fairly new construction. It is as nice to look up at as it is to look out from! The views are even more spectacular than we expected. I think you can see the whole county from there!

Bert and Rich were kind hosts and very knowledgeable about the area as they are from there. Our room was immaculate as was the entire house. Very quiet - I didn't bring my travel sound machine and didn't need it. The queen bed wasn't too firm or too soft and the pillows were very comfortable. There are some toiletries in the bathroom as well as a powerful hairdryer.

They have a huge common room on the top floor with everything you could possibly need including snacks and all kinds of reading material. They also have lots of brochures and magazines for Lancaster Co and the surrounding area and will be glad to give you advice on where to visit. Breakfast was home cooked and served with great conversation. The pool table in the basement was a nice bonus! So sorry to only have one night there but we will definitely be back for a longer stay.

My wife Sandy and I had a wonderful experience staying with Bert and Rich at their lovely Hurst House Bed and Breakfast. The accomadations were well above satisfactory, the food the same. As lovely as the room was
(we stayed in the Golden Pond room, with a great view of the Pennsylvania countryside (so happy about that verses staying in the town) the best part was the easy comraderie between Bert and Rich and their other guests. Highly recommended by a frequent traveler. Thanks for a great time.

Room Tip: We really liked the Golden Pond and Swan Lake rooms.

The B&B sits atop a hill in PA Dutch country overlooking miles and miles of farms and fields and spectacular views of the immaculately manicured grounds. There's not a bad room in the house - all have balconies - and it is meticulously cared for and maintained. Bert and Rich make you feel right at home and are attentive to anything you might need. We stayed in the swan lake room and had a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable stay. There's a lake in the back of the property with a gazebo, pergola, seating areas and two beautiful swans that just add to the peaceful atmosphere that envelops you as soon as you set foot on the grounds! We only live a few miles away, but for the weekend, we felt like we were in a whole other world. Truly a gem and I would recommend to anyone. And I will definitely be going back again!!

We've stayed at a lot of B&B's and this one is at the top. If you're going to be in the Lancaster area you owe it to yourself to consider Hurst House B&B. Why stay in a hotel when you can get all this...you'll be glad you stayed. This was our first stay at this B&B - YES, we'll go back!!! From the large and spacious Golden Pond room, to the balcony, to the private bathroom, to the wonderful owners Burt & Rich, to the breakfast, to full-run of the basement with pool table and pingpong table, to the pond with ducks and swans, to the coffee machine and snacks, to the views... ahhhh the views....

We were looking for a last minute place to stay since it had gotten too late for us to continue our journey back to New York. An innkeeper highly recommended this B&B to us, so out of a long list that she gave us, this one really stood out as exceptional. We were not disappointed. It was so magnificent that when we climbed the hill to the property, we thought we were in the wrong place and were going to be chased away by the owners of this incredible home. The Hurst's were probably two of the nicest people we have every met while staying at B&Bs. They opened their home to us as if we were honored guests. As soon as we arrived, they showed us all the many amenities, from movie, exercise, computer and game rooms to a snack (coffee, tea, cookies, etc..) room that was open to us 24/7. Rich, the owner and innkeeper, made it clear to us that we could have the run of the house. They were so friendly, warm and hospitable, that we felt more like family than a couple looking for a room for the night. We were given a tour of the magnificent home and taken out to the terrace to see the incredible views - views that could be seen from every guest room. We had our own private porch and the lights of the season decorated the grounds, which included a pond with live swans! The house was immaculate and I am a person who really values cleanliness. We had wonderful conversation with them after breakfast, and we really felt they were sorry to see us go. This is so different than many B&Bs where the hosts prefer that you leave quickly after breakfast. We feel we have made wonderful friends, and look forward to visiting with them again. Two final notes: The rooms were very reasonable. One would expect to pay double for a B&B of this quality. And for those of you who have trouble with the stairs, an elevator is available and its use is encouraged by the hosts.

Room Tip: All the rooms were great. Just a matter of your personal taste.
