“Very nice budget hotel; great for kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

When we stayed at the Erie Econo Lodge in August 2014, it was the third time for our family in the past five years. Although the rooms are starting to need a bit of updating these days, the hotel is still very nice for the price and the location.

First and foremost, if you're on a family trip with kids, the pool area at this hotel is fantastic. It may be the nicest indoor pool area anywhere around at an Econo Lodge. Inside the high-ceiling atrium is a large pool, a hot tub that is very large as far as hotel hot tubs go, a dry sauna, indoor seating area and an outside patio. Our elementary-aged kids love the pool, even though it could use a more shallow area for the little ones, who may have to stay on the steps or rely on mom and dad to keep them afloat.

For the budget price, the hotel also offers a free breakfast in a large breakfast area. It includes a hot choice such as scrambled eggs and sausage, as well as three waffle makers, toast and other breads, pastries, cereal, juice, coffee and fruit. A very nice selection. When you're traveling with a family, you can't underestimate the cost savings a free breakfast offers.

The standard rooms (two double beds) are on the small side, and could stand to be updated. I overheard one of the workers telling someone that the hotel was in the process of ordering new sofa sleepers, so maybe they are looking at a larger remodel in the near future. Regardless, the hotel is still very clean, well stocked and the free wifi is also very good.

The hotel is located right off of Interstate 90, directly across the street from Spash Lagoon and right along Peach Street, which is the heart of Erie's shopping area that includes multiple shopping plazas, the large Millcreek Mall, every chain restaurant and more. You're also only a few miles away from downtown Erie, and the Presque Isle area. An easy drive on Interstate 79.

Room Tip: Our room during this past visit was one that had a window into the pool area. This can be nice, but...

My spouse and I stayed here during a recent long distance move. The hotel itself is located very close to the interstate highway which is nice when you have a big box truck. There was plenty of parking and the lot had two sections, one of which made parking larger vehicles (or trailers) much easier. This larger area wasn't lit as well as the more cramped, closer parking lot, but it still didn't feel too dark. Staff was friendly, there seemed to be a lot more of then than usual for a hotel, or perhaps they are just out and about more. There is a relatively nice indoor pool, hot-tube, and sauna. The pool was cold, the hot-tub was luke-warm (for a hot-tub), and the sauna was very hot (its a dry sauna). However it was nothing terrible and the area was nice. The big downside to the pool area is that at least some of the smoking rooms seem to vent directly into the pool room. Which means that we got more than a few whiffs of cigarette smoke while in the the hot-tub. The pool is further away from the rooms, so children are less likely to be right up on the smoke, but it was still a problem. Most importantly, they actually seemed to make sure people left the pool area when it closed. About 15 minutes prior to closing their was a loud group of adults drinking beer in the hot-tub, my initial thought was "Oh boy, here we go." But the staff got them out of their promptly at closing.

Breakfast was included, and while it wasn't anything fancy, it was far more than we were expecting from an Econolodge. Overall, my only real complaints involve the smoke from the second floor drifting into the stairwells and the smoke being vented into the pool area. If these aren't a concern for you, then I didn't have any other real faults. It is an Econolodge, so as long as you adjust your expectations accordingly you'll probably be impressed!

Room Tip: If you are in a room facing the pool, be prepared for noise levels to increase between dinner time a...

This hotel is good. We stayed Thursday July 24-Monday July 28.
The staff is the best. They are very helpful. We had a few things that needed fixing and they too care of it.

The location is great close to Millcreek mall, Walmart and splash lagoon. A lot restaurants are close by like Bob Evans, Boston's Gourmet pizza.

I have a partial handicap and the pool was great. They have a machine to lift you into the water. They also have railings. the hot tub was good and had great railings.

The beds need new mattresses and the sofa bed was very hard to sleep on. You could feel the bars and wires.

The breakfast was good but no fruit the weekend we were there. I loved the waffles. They had bite sized waffles.

We arrived in Erie after a long day of driving and this was the first motel that we checked out. The staff and rooms at this EconoLodge were much better than some of our previous experiences with this brand. The first room we saw had a damp smell but the room we actually took was fine. We had a king room with Jacuzzi and the room and bathroom were both spacious and fully equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was reasonable.

Clean linen and bathroom. Close to attractions. The room had a strong smell of wet moldy carpet and the carpet was not clean. The room was pricey for the condition. The room was not very soundproof. Quality improvements should definitely be considered. I understand that renovations are scheduled for this year but the room I had was not yet revamped.

We had a comfortable room, but the bathroom looked like it had some water damage on the wallpaper. But the price was right and we enjoyed our stay. We ended up staying another night, we priced many other hotels but with the coupon we found on roomsaver.com we got the room for $59 a night. This was a room with a whirlpool.

We were very pleased with the hotel. The room, while not extremely fancy, was clean, comfortable, and good value for the cost. The pool area, including the hot tub and sauna, was clean and well maintained. The staff were all friendly and inviting, very helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about meeting our needs and requests. The breakfast offered plenty of choices, from waffles to scrambled eggs, doughnuts, bagels/toast, cereals, yogurt......The hotel is located near plenty of restaurants, activities, and points of interest. Over all, our stay was a good one, and we will stay here again.
