“Horrible Place to Stay”

I went to the Avalon 4 the week-end on St. Patricks Day. Check-in @ 3pm and the room had no bed. They were movin the beds from the 6th floor down 2 the 4th floor... it took them about 1 hour to give my family and friends a bed to sleep in. The general manager was rude 2 us and said he didnt care how hot the rooms were. The next time I plan on booking a hotel room I will make sure its not @ the Avalon. They have bed bugs,no phone service and most of all no internet service that you can use.. The personal staff are rude and very disrespectful, plus their food is cold and looks like it has mold from the walls on the bread. God bless everybody who stays their and hope you have a strong stomach for the foul smell.

We stayed on St. Patrick's Day. Check in was suppose to be at 3 pm, but we could't check in till 3:30 pm. If you read the bottom of your receipt it states that if you check in early they would charge you $10 extra. They didn't comp me anything for them checking me in late.
After partying all day downtown we thought it best to just go to the hotel and drink, little did we know that the lounge at our hotel didn't open at all that day due to large events happening at the hotel. Poor mgmt. on their part. What hotel wants their guests to go elsewhere to drink on a crazy day downtown?
We had no trash cans in our room and our drawers had lamps in them so we couldn't unpack our bag.

Many of the rooms were under construction and fumigation for bed bugs. Heavy odor of mold, damp, many prople slept here without bathing smell. People (staff) very rude. Food served cold and old (some bread had mold on it). Could not get out of there fast enough.

This is the third time we stayed at the Avalon for the St. Patrick day festivities and have never been more disappointed or frustrated. Our reservations had been made 6 months in advanced for adjoining rooms and when we checked in we had rooms on separate floors. There was no hot water for 2 days and their in-room phones were not in service. We either had to use our cell phones or go to the front desk regarding our concerns. Some rooms had been "updated" but not fully completed (no towel bars in the bathroom and microwave and fridge just sat on the floor). One of the bed spreads had a big stain on the underside when brought to cleaning personnel it was not changed. HVAC was not working properly and rooms were hot. The manager was conveniently not available in the 2 days we stayed there. I truly felt sorry for the wedding party guests who stayed there.

I checked into the Avalon recently and my stay was great. The price i paid was more then fair. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the server was more then efficient and personable. There is such a HUGE improvement in the rooms compared to last year. Everything is new and modern and you have to ask for a SUPERIOR room. i see alot of previous reviews about crappy renovated rooms.. you probably werent in a renovated room. only a couple floors have been done i learned after talking to Megan the front desk agent. She was very informative and kind and talked to every single person in our group as if she knew us. The couple in front of us however was not happy at all with their housekeeping service and were giving her a very hard time and she handled it with patience and efficiency and truly did what she could do for the couple. This type of customer service is so rare these days in the hotel industry that it was very refreshing to see.She even gave us extra towels ahead of time knowing that they only put 2 towels per room and there were 4 of us.to see people say such horrible things about a hotel and staff that is trying to turn a place around is unfortunate. I give the Avalon, its new owners and its staff an A+ and will be returning for sure when i am in the Erie area again. Great Job!

Room Tip: book a superior room and be kind!

My husband and I went to Erie for a weekend getaway. We checked into the Avalon becasue of it's location in relation to the Warner Theater.

Location: The central downtown location is definitely the best in Erie if you are planning to be at the Warner, the Erie Playhouse, Juniors Comedy Club, or any of the numerous bars and restaurants. There is also a very close sports arena, but I am uncertain which team plays there.

The room: We booked a Superior King room and were perfectly satisfied. The room was clean and amply appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was fabulous.

The service: We did not have any problems at all. While we were there, however, we did observe two very angry people at the front desk. One person was upset because they went to their room and it had not been cleaned or prepared for them. Another did not like the fact that he had to wait for the customer in front of him to finish, so he walked out yelling very angry comments. We stayed for two nights and although our room was cleaned in between days, the housekeeping staff failed to replace the shampoo, conditioner, and soap. They also did not empty and clean the coffee pot. Not really a big deal, just an observation.

The restaurant: The onsite restaurant (Benjamin's) was ok. We stopped in before the show for a drink and a quick bite to eat. The menu was limited, so we ordered a club sandwich and french onion soup. The food was fine. Not anything special, but fine. They did serve breakfast although we chose to go elsewhere for breakfast. It is a little disappointing that breakfast of any kind was not included with the room. Not even a continental breakfast.

Parking: The parking garage is below the hotel. It is nice to have offstreet parking at no cost. The garage is a little scary, but most parking garages are.

Room Tip: Choose the Superior room. When we asked what the difference was, they said that the Superior rooms...

I called and was told I could do early check-in. Once I got there, the lady at the desk was very rude about the early check-in. Once we got our keys and went to the room, it wasn't made up so we had to go return the keys and get a new room.

That night from about 1-4 am, there was a very loud group of young people screaming/yelling/fighting and the cops were called.

There was a young man stuck in the elevator during this same time, and the next morning, it still didn't work. They did not put an "out of order" sign on it. Since the elevator was "on our floor" even though the doors wouldn't open, the other elevator wouldn't come. So we had to carry our luggage down six flights of stairs.
