“Cute little romantic getaway”
Reviewed 13 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We came to Gettysburg, PA for the 150th anniversary since my husband was part of the battle recreations. This quiet little site was the perfect choice. Although it was a little bit of a drive to the battlefields, it was a beautiful drive through the Pennsylvania countryside, straight down highway 30. After long crowded days in the National Park and Gettysburg, it was so nice to return to our quiet gatehouse to unwind and relax. Nestled in the trees, the cottage was very comfortable and private. The cottage was absolutely spotless and cutely decorated. The Matins leave plenty of information available regarding local attractions and restaurants. The gatehouse is not a large place but we had plenty of room. The master bedroom is upstairs and was very roomy. There was a nice little bathroom upstairs which was very convenient. Just realize if you are bringing a full house of guests, somebody will be staying in the bedroom adjacent to your room, cutting down on the privacy. The other beds are downstairs, a futon and a fold out couch. We spent our morning sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and our evenings reading and talking. There is no tv or cable available. They provide wifi but the signal was not strong enough to be able to use our laptop. It forced us to unplug which was a nice side effect. Having laundry facilities on premises was an added bonus. There are stores a couple of miles away and plenty of places to get something to eat or shop in nearby Chambersburg. The Martins provide plenty of towels and linens and try to leave things you might need. They were very gracious hosts and worked with us as we were driving twenty hours to Pennsylvania and not sure of our arrival time. Even though they were not on site while we were there, they quickly responded to any questions we had via texts and phone calls. I would highly recommend the gatehouse for a country getaway.

Thank you for the kind review. We now offer free wifi services back at our office for guests to get a stronger signal. Glad you had the opportunity to be a part of Gettysburg's 150th celebration.

“slightly decieving”

A nice place with a woman's touch but oversold. The Cottage is 100 ft. from a busy state hwy. (Rt.75), which has trucks at ALL hours. You also share a driveway under the kitchen window to owner's business and large residential property, so there's a lot of traffic. I don't know where the "private beach" was. The fire pit was a little grill type thing, while behind their house was real nice open fire ring complete with benches. The pool table was for little kids too. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IT IS NOT TWO BEDROOMS, ONE IS A KIDS ROOM, WHICH ONLY OPENS TO THE MAIN BEDROOM. I do want to say, the Martins were very nice people and knowledgeable about the area. I was also grateful that there was no ridiculous "cleaning fee" , as they seem to charge in the Poconos even for a 2 night stay. Overall, too noisy and not 2 bedrooms and considerably overpriced, now that I think about.

Thank you for the review and we are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. There is a public beach at Cowan's Gap State Park (7 minutes from cottage.) on a mountain lake. Private beach should not have been checked on the amenities listing. We apologize for that error. The Gatehouse does have a creek running behind it through the woods. We provide lawn chairs for the moveable contained fire "grill". We also provide plenty of FREE firewood cut to fit that grill. We clearly state that we are located on Rt 75. This is a two-lane state road that runs north/south through Path Valley from Route 322 to the Mason-Dixon Line. For some this is a benefit because it provides easy access for travel.
