Wifey and i were traveling to visit relatives in the area. The house was full so we looked around. Always looking for an alternative to the standard hotel/motel offerings we found Witherup House, a turn of the last century (after a rebuild) home situated on one of the main streets in Franklin Pa. Reservations we a snap on email. We arrived later than expected for the evening but no problem. Ann and Marty welcomed us in--we had our pick of rooms on the second floor of the home. We settled on a room on the main street side-balcony off the room allowed us to sit out and enjoy the wonderful summer evening with a glass of wine. The room (on the second floor as are all the rooms) was clean nicely appointed with a comfortable king/queen bed. Common baths are clean and accessible for all the rooms. Good hot water and water pressure-plenty of towel age. And a kitchenette is available should the urge arise for a meal in. The breakfast was great, fresh fruit(strawberries from the backyard), cereal, yogurt, breakfast cookies, etc. The New Orleans style coffee was great. Marty offered to cook for us-we declined as we needed to be on our way-maybe next time.
The house (for being rebuilt in 1905) was in great shape-wonderful from an architechural standpoint. The history of the home and the area is fascinating too. Bend Ann or Marty's ear and you'll learn much about the town and the people that built it. Take a walk downtown, or a stroll to the creek where it meets the river. I am told this area is great for biking and kayaking-maybe on a future trip.
If you are traveling to this area Witherup House is definitely worth strong consideration.
