“Lovely time for a quick Getaway”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

We've been going away for a day or 2 for years for our Anniversary/Christmas. Our Anniversary was 3 days before Christmas and our daughter was getting married 3 days after Christmas. We weren't going to go away this year, but at the last minute, I remembered traveling through Franklin, PA in the summer. I looked up B&B's there and gave Ann a call.
She was such a warm person on the phone. When we got there, I was quite frazzled, but Ann & Marty and their home were exactly what we needed. Even though it was December 22, it was warm enough to walk down to the park and take a walking tour of the town. It was quirky & fun!
The breakfast in the morning was delicious! And Ann gave me the rhubarb bread recipe that we had for breakfast:-)
All heck broke out with phone calls from our kids before we even left that morning, but we got away and had a Small Town amazing time!

Room Tip: You could hear the traffic quite well from our side room. I'm sure the front room would be much...

A group of friends from college days spent a weekend here and were thrilled with the experience. The proprietors, Ann and Marty, could not have been more welcoming and warm hosts. Their home has a strong sense of history, filled with interesting art work and lovely details. The living spaces had extensive libraries, and the rip-roaring fireplace made us never want to leave. The bedrooms were very well appointed, and the electric mattress warmers were the ultimate in comfort! Both bedrooms and bathrooms were impeccably clean. They even provided robes. Breakfast of fresh fruit, pancakes, yogurts, eggs, juices was excellent. Location is perfect - just under a ten minute walk to the center of the charming town. As we were there in winter, we could not avail ourselves of the beautiful river within walking distance. From the street The Witherup House looks so inviting - the same holds true as you enter!

Grand old house on the main street of town, within a short walk of downtown. We were greeted by gracious and friendly hosts, The guest room's kitchen was well equipped for cooking if one wishes. Comfortable accommodations with a sitting porch off our room. Excellent breakfast with choice of fresh squeezed juices, muffins, boiled eggs, ham and cheese, granola, yogurt and the list goes on. Easy walking distance to downtown area for food and the local pubs. We will stay again at the Witherup House the next time we are in town.

Room Tip: The front bedroom with the porch on the street was nice to relax on with a cocktail in hand. However...

My husband and I stayed here in July with my parents and two kids, ages 10 and 12, and very much enjoyed our evening. Ann was so very accommodating: willing to take us for only one night, setting up an air mattress for the kids and generally providing a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. The house is clean, the front porch especially delightful. They have a free book box out front, which is just charming!

Our family of four stayed at the Witherup House and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were well appointed, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast delicious! The front bedroom had a lovely second floor porch for enjoying the cool breeze. It is only two blocks from the park by the river and very close to a bustling downtown with restaurants, coffee shops and stores. We will definitely stay there again!

My son and I traveled to Franklin, PA to attend my father's funeral, and after a 9 hour drive, arrived exhausted and elated to land. Marty hollered to us from the front door to let us know we'd found Witherup House, and directed us to park in back, where he welcomed us and helped carry our bags in. Aside from the aesthetic beauty of the house, evident even from the backyard gardens, we felt instantly welcome and at home. Ann met us as we entered the warm and unique kitchen and her kindness, too, was apparent from "hello." We were shown the common areas, and asked when we might like breakfast. Marty pointed out the kitchen, for guest use on the 2nd floor, the jacuzzi tub in the marbled master bath, indicated we should make ourselves at home and led us to our room.

The house has been in Ann's family for 50 or so years, and you can feel a sense of family everywhere you look. From the artwork which ranges from contemporary to the work of children and back to gorgeous oil paintings and Ann's art studio in the sleeping porch, to the baby grand piano in the front sitting room, and the front porches that stretch across the entire front facade on 1st and 2nd levels, there is something for everyone. Oh, and they're eco-friendly and serve fresh local fare for a delicious, filling, and nutritious breakfast!

The Witherup is just 2 blocks from where the Allegheny meets Oil Creek and what a breathtaking scene I encountered on my morning walk. The creativity of these folks is abundant and lends a taste of whimsy to the underlying era of grandeur so rarely found anymore. This house has been lived in and loved in. We felt so cared for and nourished by the time we left that we'd nearly forgotten why we were there. A serendipitous experience to be sure. We will be back with family in tow next time for a fun excursion from our northern New York experience. Thank you, kindly, for your hospitality and for sharing the ambiance you've created with us. If you're ever in our neck of the woods, we'd gladly have you as our guests!

Room Tip: Every room is crafted for comfort- it won't matter which.

We had a small group visiting Franklin to kayak the Allegheny & do some biking. 3rd year now. But our first year at the B&B. By far the best lodging. We rented the whole house for our group & really enjoyed just chilling out & relaxing (in between our adventures). Marty & Ann were splendid. Very helpful to accomodate extra bedding, info about area, interesting conversations about history of region, space in garage for overnight storage of bikes/kayaks, and a delicious spread of food for breakfast. My only minor complaint was the whirl of traffic/noise that passes in front of the house. This B&B is only the main road through town ... good for logistics & going into town, but some extra noise if sitting out on the front porch/deck. Still, I highly recommend.

Room Tip: All rooms had ample space.
