Lovely house in a great location close to the river, the Capitol building, the State Museum and restaurants on 2nd street. The house is approx. 100 years old and has lovely original wooden features which give it a warm feeling. Beautiful dining room and reception areas open to guests.

We chose the Bryce Room which overlooks the river and has windows on two sides and lovely wooden floors. It’s a sizeable room with good storage space (although a few extra hangers wouldn’t go amiss) and a wonderful pillow-top bed and comfortable pillows. The lights in the headboard were not working making reading difficult but hopefully a temporary blip. It’s also a quiet room despite there being a busy road outside.

Kitchenette area on landing available to guests with fridge and coffee and comp water, although the water was not replenished during our two day stay - the owner seemed quite laid back but I have little doubt that he would have replenished had we pointed it out.

Breakfast in the lovely dining room was okay with juice and breads and one baked item (oatmeal one day, French toast the next) – would have loved a fry-up!

Would definitely come again and heartedly recommend.

We recently stayed here for 2 nights and were very impressed with the property and our room. The owner was very helpful and provided many suggestions on what sites to see, where to dine, etc. The only drawback was that some of the surrounding areas were a bit sketchy, so we were uncomfortable walking too far from the B&B after dark. The downtown area is very quiet on the weekend - no shops to speak of were open and some of the restaurants within walking distance weren't open on Sunday night. Other than this, the B&B itself was terrific. We would stay there again if ever in the area.

Our weekend began with Bruce, the inn keeper greeting us in the gated parking lot. He showed us to the Bryce room which was beautifully appointed in both period and modern furniture/decor. Although the room looked out onto Front Street and the river, we did not hear any traffic or pedestrian noise. During the weekend, whenever we saw Bruce, he greeted us and talked to us as if we were old friends. We definitely would stay here again and highly recommend it!

We stayed in the Bryce Room and didn't want to leave. We felt like we were in a display house for Restoration Hardware. Everything on their website is true to description. I researched many other b&b's along our route from Baltimore to Harrisburg and none compared to the sophistication and value of City House.

The staff is so friendly (but not imposing), the room was spotless (even under the bed was dust-free) and so spacious, the bathroom is AMAZING, the water temperature and pressure were perfect, the bed was perfect - slightly firm, the linens were made by angels in a small factory in heaven, the room temperature was perfect with a noiseless fan above the bed, modern iPhone charger/alarm clock, the wall mounted TV swivels and was a perfect size for the room, great river view from tall windows (which open to let in fresh air if you want), I could go on and on.

The breakfast itself was light fare served in the dining room: homemade banana bread, bagels, english muffins, cereal, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee and orange juice.

The house and room are secure - you're given security codes to the house and your room (bonus - no keys to lose) with the freedom to come and go as you like. Though all the rooms are on the same (second) floor of the house, you don't feel claustrophobic or stacked on top of each other. It is an old house and the floors do creak, but we didn't hear anyone and weren't bothered by any noise at night. The grounds surrounding the house were charming - landscaped like an English garden. The whole house is just so inviting and peaceful.

We are seriously trying to find an excuse to come to Harrisburg again just so we can stay here! I wish they had more locations, because we would pick City House every time.

Room Tip: All rooms have a king bed, but we can only speak for the Bryce Room which is their best/biggest room...

I was there for 3 days in June 2012. I called ahead to ask some questions and was treated like my business mattered. Considering that City House has 4 rooms in high demand, I appreciate that. I stayed in the "William" room, which was nice and very comfortable, as were the sitting areas, outdoor tables and breakfast room. Bruce, the manager, was helpful and easy to reach, pretty much any hour of the day. At City House, you can mix (or not) with the other guests, but I found the other guests to be as warm and friendly as the "hosts." To quote the prominent Charleston philosopher Drew Epting, "You create your own ambience." City House does just that! Good coffee and water are available around the clock and if you bring in take out or delivery, you can eat on real plates with good silverware. Parking is available "on campus" just outside the back door. Each day, I walked the river that sits out the front door and was sorry to leave when the time came. City House is a no-brainer and made what was already a great trip to see family in Harrisburg even better!

My wife and I were in Central PA and decided to spend a night in Harrisburg. This place was perfect! It is much more of a European experience than a New England B&B (antiques, musty smells, creaky floorboards). It is very comfortable and is in a terrific location, if you are going to enjoy downtown Harrisburg. It's right on the river and an easy walk to City Island and the restaurants on Third Street. Bruce, the manager/owner, is a wonderful fellow who makes you feel right at home. You can mingle with other guests or stay to yourself. The Elizabeth and William suites cost a little more, but are in the back of the house, so they're quiet (very quiet).
Each room has a big-screen TV, a great shower, and lots of room. There's a tea and coffee bar right outside the rooms.

Room Tip: William and Elizabeth rooms will be quieter.

We chose City House based upon previous TA reviews and it did not disappoint. Harrisburg itself is unattractive, however it provided us an excellent base to tour its interesting hinterland.

Bruce, the manager was particularly welcoming and helpful. The breakfasts were sumptious. Our room 'Elizabeth' was extremely comfortable and sported an attractive en-suite. The public room downstairs proved most relaxing after a long sight seeing day. It was nice to meet co-guests and enter into interesting conversations.
