“Lovely and quiet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

The mix of state of the art amenities with craftsmanship of days gone by makes this a lovely stop for a weary traveler. Original art (for sale) graces the walls of the cozy and inviting common rooms. My room (Elizabeth) was spacious, clean and quiet. I was a little uncomfortable having to exit my car late at night to key in the parking area gate code.

Room Tip: Elizabeth room was spacious, with a fireplace and king-sized bed. The window overlooks an alley with...

We stayed at City House last August and loved it, so when we had another event in Harrisburg this year, we decided to book here a second time. Everything was exceptional yet again! Our cozy room (Helen) - with two large windows affording a view of the river - was as charming and as crisply clean as before. A fireplace filled with candles set a romantic tone. The modern bathroom has a huge shower with dual shower heads, pedestal sink, and plenty of light. It looked brand-new last year, and it still looks brand-new this year. After breakfast in the large dining room, we enjoyed reading the paper in the spacious living room and sipping coffee in the adjacent sun room. Another wonderful "amenity" is the changing display of original artwork from local artists. The friendly innkeeper welcomed us warmly, and then gave us plenty of space to enjoy the property. We hope to be back next year!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the property afford a river view.

This large house is well kept, the bedroom and bathrooms were clean and spacious.
The innkeeper was friendly, breakfast was OK and parking is available in the backyard.
Wifi is a bit temperamental but serviceable.
The problem is that the house is set on a very busy street next to a traffic light with motorbikes and cars exhausts causing constant noise nuisance.
The bedroom has double paned windows but if you like to sleep with open windows you are unlikely to enjoy a peaceful sleep.
Maybe bedrooms facing the back of the house would be quieter but the one we had(Bryce)certainly was not.

Such a pretty house with very classic features, including a lovely garden and outdoor tables. Right across the Susquehanna river. Great amenities, breakfast included and a little bar with really good coffee, tea, and snacks available all day long. Secure parking and close location to walk to restaurants. The room was beautiful and well designed- modern, clean and so comfortable- double showers! Internet and cable worked great. Would definitely stay here again!

Spotless, beautifully modernized while still having the original charm.. and very secure. Amazing Weston mattresses - fireplaces- huge showers with multiple heads. I have stayed twice and if I go back to Harrisburg- this is the only place I would stay. Highly recommend...its within walking distance to the PA State Capitol..with a view of the river. You have to book in advance- they only have four rooms.. all have en suite baths.

Room Tip: Get the Bryce-- 3 shower heads!

We had a very nice experience from the time we arrived through the time we left. The parking lot has a secure gate that requires an access code to enter after hours. You also need an access code to gain entry into the building as well as entry into your room. I felt very safe here. The room has a very comfortable king size bed, a nice size flat screen TV, and a nice ceiling fan that helps with the air conditioning. There is a nice size bathroom with an excellent large double shower. There is a small kitchenette outside of the rooms that contain good homemade chocolate chip cookies, a Kreugeg coffee maker, and a small fridge. Breakfast was good and was served buffet style. The French toast was very tasty. There was also fruit, cereal, yogurt, orange juice, coffee and tea. The host was very cordial and friendly. We had a very good experience here and look forward to staying here in the future.

We stayed here on a stopover on our way to Pittsburg, and I had a delightful time. It was safe, clean, friendly and convenient. Free, gated parking is included, and rates are very reasonable, compared to other local hotels. Bruce the innkeeper was prompt, knowledgeable, and efficient. The hotel is just across the street from a nice little river walk where you might take in a sunrise or sunset on the river, or just enjoy the local architecture. Good restaurants are in easy walking distance too, and the Capitol building is a very worthy attraction and the 1/2 hour tours are free, and so worthwhile. Breakfast at the inn on the weekend we were there was more like a continental breakfast with some delicious homemade oat cake, fruit, and other standard continental fair. Book early, as senators often book here while congress is in session.

Room Tip: My room faced another building, but an angled window still allowed a view of the river.
