Attraction details
Owner description: Wildwood Park is located in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania on the outskirts of downtown Harrisburg. Its 229 acres are a haven for countless species of flora and fauna centered around the 90 acre freshwater wetland. A popular three-mile loop trail encircles the park with side trails and boardwalks for a total of six miles of trails. Its attractive Olewine Nature Center features engaging exhibits on environmental education. Established in 1901, during the City Beautiful Movement, Wildwood was part of a nationwide effort to improve urban life. In 1976, the Dauphin County Commissioners assumed ownership of the property. Now managed by Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department, Wildwood Park is one of Pennsylvania’s premier centers for environmental studies, educational opportunities and outdoor recreation. It is a cherished retreat for nature lovers, bird watchers and exercise enthusiasts.

“Great Trails and Nature Center”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

Wildwood Park is a great place to practice for a 5K since the whole loop is 3.1 miles. But there are also plenty of smaller loops to take the family, especially the Boardwalk where you can see lots of animals from frogs, to birds, to even an occasional snake! My boys love the nature center! But it is closed on Mondays....

“City Beautiful Treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Wildwood Park is a beautiful, practical wild area that almost didn't happen! Now that it provides sanctuary in an urban area, we may take it for granted. But, take time to visit the Nature Center and read about the efforts of dedicated local Harrisburg boosters who waited almost 100 years to see their vision come true. In an eight-day Harrisburg stay, I walked the Wildwood Park trail loop twice: it's that nice.

Cute note: a little chipmunk was so intent on gathering berries on the path that it ran over my foot and kept looking for more. When your cheeks are that stuffed with fruit, it's probably hard to see anything else!

“Bring your headphones”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

This park really has a lot to offer, from bird watching, to sunday strolls, to exploring the nature center. The one thing that ruins this park for me is the sound of Big Rigs barrelling down Interstate 81. This natural oasis is polluted by the sounds of the highway. Best use for this park is a nice jog, but be sure to bring head phones. At least your eyes will still be treated.

“A fun family outing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

A relaxing family outing right in the middle of a busy city. Pack your bikes or walking shoes and a lunch and you are all set for a family picnic. A pleasant nature trail with sightings of several birds along the way. Walk or bike- take your pick. Abound with bird sounds and the ripples of a flowing creek- it gives a feel of the wild woods completely drowning away any city noises. The nature center offers the kids a fun filled exploration in its discovery room. All in all, the wildwood park offers a pleasant day's picnic to all ages at no cost whatsoever.

“Great Place for a Walk, Run, Bike Ride”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

Whenever I get the chance, I'll stop here for a run or walk around the Park... if it's not a 5K lap, it's very close. The trail is mostly paved with a couple of inclines. Within the main trail there are walking paths.
