“A variety of places for a night out”

Downtown Harrisburg has a lot going on, from restaurants, bars, and entertainment. They are getting away from the 'club' scene and now making it more of a restaurant row, as in the past. One can generally feel safe, as long as you are in the center of the downtown, but do not venture off the beaten track if you are on your own, it is not the safest place. Of course, no matter where you go you should always be aware of your surroundings. We like to go at least once or twice a month to find a new place or visit one we like.

Went to the Arts Festival and drove through the heart of downtown (got lost). It was so nice. The capitol building was amazing. The streets were clean and there seemed like there was lots to do and see in the way of shops and cafes. Def going back

Harrisburg is the state capital of Pennsylvania with a large quantity of activities for the whole family. There are museums - Whitaker Center, State Museum, State Archives; restaurants - Restaurant Row on 2nd Street, Strawberry Square's food court, Firehouse; and a great waterfront. Across from Harrisburg, in the middle of the Susquehanna River is City Island, home of the Harrisburg Senators (minor league affliate for the Washington Nationals), a soccer team, mini-golf, play ground, and beach. Several times a year there are festivals - Arts Fest and Kipona - that shut down Front Street to allow visitors to walk among vendors and hear music. A fun place to visit, with Hershey, York, Gettysburg, and Lancaster within easy driving distance to make Harrisburg a good base for visiting Central PA.

We parked our car 4 blocks away from Market street and walked across the bridge to take in the weather. Ended up on City Island and enjoyed the view of the city riverfront before walking back across the pedestrian bridge. Continued our walk along Front St to observe the architecture of all the older buildings. Decent walk during the daytime to see the shops and different "districts" of downtown.

Visit was worthwhile. But I would have to say, once and done ! When you've seen Chocolate World which is why you go to Hershey, you have pretty much seen it all. City of Harrisburg was not all that. Location of hotel to airport was very conveinent, and the Holiday Inn Express on Union Deposit Road was very clean, the breakfast bar was excellent, and the staff was very helpful ( especially Tiffany Alvarado ).
