“Modern Renovations”

The floor we were on showed recent renovation, smelled slightly of plaster and paint. But the carpet and walls were clean, the room spacious and well appointed, and it was a great night's rest. Very nice service from the valet to the front desk. I'll return when back in Harrisburg.

I returned to the Harrisburg Hilton - the prior visit was in November 2013. Things have definitely improved. The Business Lounge has been renovated with much more seating and a general access computer. The food offerings were much better and also contained more healthy options than previously. I had no issue with getting into the wi-fi - no crazy codes.

The staff is always attentive - they were never the issue.

Steve is back performing jazz in the Bar on weekends. The food in the bar was really great - lots of choices - including healthy salads. There were local newspapers in the lounge. The rooms now have many outlets because all of the lighting bases have outlets in them. The bathrooms have been upgraded.

I realize that all of this renovation was not without pain - and yes, it is probably noisy during the week, and there is a paint smell. A 14 story hotel can only be renovated one floor at a time and the process probably happens during the week.

But overall the Hilton is on the right track again.

Room Tip: Always stay as far away from the elevators as possible. There are three banks and the constant noise...

The hotel was under renovation and this was not explained during check-in. Several elevators were out of commission resulting in 10-15 minute waits to get an elevator. Construction started at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning! Although the food in the restaurant was good the service was extremely slow and they seemed to be understaffed.

I am sitting in my room at Hilton Harrisburg and writing about the worst experience at a full-service Hilton since I became a Gold member.

At check-in last night I was supposedly "upgraded" by a gentleman to a better room, but it looks like a worse than average room that faces another office building so close to the hotel where I can almost see the name plate of the person who sits by the window. The elevator and hallway is the most rundown Hilton I have ever been to, and the level of the guest services is inconsistent.

The most annoying moment is when I tried to request a late check-out for 3pm the lady told me the usual check-out time is 12pm and the best she can do is 1pm. After I told her even the Hyatt in NYC will accommodate 4pm check-out if requested by an elite member she relented and gave me 2pm as an "exception". Checking on Hilton's website it is still selling rooms at $142 for tonight so I doubt the hotel is "at capacity" as she claimed. This is some truly "exceptional" treatment I am getting as an elite member.

Despite all the unsatisfactory experience, I have to give credit to the lady who was working at guest services last night and directed us to the very friendly shuttle bus driver Ryan who happily drove us to the nearby restaurant and picked us up after our dinner.

Hot Dinner on COLD PLATES ... not my style. WARM SOUP ... why did it sit before being served ?? The dinner was served on COLD plates - it was supposed to be a hot meal - the soup chilled quickly - it was slow and probably waiting to be delivered by the server. The flan was really poor quality. And of all things, there were a few berries with the flan - and two in our group of three had that - each serving had about 5 blueberries and a TOKEN RASPBERRY .. at Hilton's "Raspberries" ... rather disappointing and reflecting the worn down property that the Harrisburg Hilton has become. Of course this experience discouraged our larger group from both Breakfast and Lunch the next day. I don't have a compelling reason to return to the Harrisburg Hilton.

Spent the last few days at a church conference at the Hilton. They did a great job keeping all the kids at bay! Rooms were clean and the staff was very gracious and kind. My only issue was the size of the bathrooms but given the age of the property they were laid out as best as they could have been. Hats off to the Hilton staff, and that is coming for a marriott associate! Job well done!

My bf and I got the romance package . It was nice . Surprised us with the chocolate covered strawberries included in with our sparkling wine . Valet parking was great to have considering our multiple trips back n forth. The menu for dinner was satisfying late night . Not having to drive around looking for something to eat that was most likely on that menu anyway . The view was nice looking at the bridge across . Which we regret not having enough time to walk across it . Looked like a nice peaceful moment to have . Will stay again . It's nice to know what to expect and guarantee a comfortable stay .
