I know people swear by this place and go back year after year - I just didn't get it. Maybe I missed the happy koolaid you were supposed to drink when you get there.
It was our first time there as a family, and asked to be put together, and when we reserved the rooms we were told we would be, but somehow wound up in four rooms in three separate buildings, which was extremely inconvenient. The staff said they were booked and could not move us, even though we were early to check in.
The person who compared this to Carnival on land was accurate - the difference is the pricing where Carnival offers low fares once in a while, and this place is definitely not cheap. I found a lot of things that focused on quantity over quality ... such as the food, activities and shows. There was a juggler one night who could barely catch anything he threw and a comedian who did not get one laugh from anyone in the audience. I would rather have one quality show than a pick of several mediocre acts.
There was plenty of food - but none of it was great, except maybe the breads, but that may be because they are also for sale. I do have to compliment the food staff - they were very accomodating with any requests.
A lot of the activities seemed unorganized. Some events weren't prepared ontime or had too many people and the staff didn't know what to do with the crowd or had too few people and kept waiting for more to hopefully show up.
I can understand why parents seem to love it because they just let their kids run wild and feel as if they don't have to watch them or worry about them. We had kids next to us up all night screaming and jumping around the room and there were teenagers running thru the halls most nights until the early hours of the morning.
The best thing about this place is you can bring your own alcohol - we had happy hour in a room every night before dinner, which kept us from having to buy overpriced, watered down drinks in the dining room.
