“Think twice before you stay”
Reviewed 16 January 2011

I traveled with my husband to Alvin's Cabins this past January for 3 nights. The outside area of the cabins are quaint and seemed to be well kept. The main cabins are a bit close to the road so it can be a bit noisy, especially for your pets. Yes, one cabin is set up to allow you to bring a pet which is nice but the cars going by may cause them to bark alot, especially at night.
Where to begin, well the cabin on the inside was ok but is in need of a remodel. The furniture is old, dirty and in disrepair as well as the flooring. I really didn't even want to sit on the furniture so I stuck to an old rocker for the few days we were there. The kitchen is not fully stocked as noted on their web site. It lacks some essentials and the items provided were difficult to work with and missed matched. Bring what you need if you stay here since only the minimum is provided . There isn't a toaster. wine glasses or a wine/bottle opener so if you would be looking for these items bring them. Our fire extinguisher was even missing from the bracket. The bathroom was ok but no outlet for a hair dryer which you must bring yourself. Few outlets were found in the cabin making it very difficult to dry your hair. The bathroom mirror was set up so high I couln't see myself in it. Linens were provided only once and they were sparse and poor quality. No bath mat either so we were forced to buy towels. Bring your own soap since whats provided only lasts one shower. No extras here folks. The bedding was ok but the mattress is old and hard to sleep on, my hubby resorted to the dog sofa.
The cabin was warm but the heater, oh that heater made loud train like whistling noises all night long when it turned on so sleep was at a minimum. Oh and the mouse. My husband noted it running from the heater to the couch and I thought he was joking, No joke, I watched it all weekend running back and forth from the heater to the dog sofa.
The cabin features a fire place which was nice and cozy. The location is close to camelback, so thats a plus.
It is not cheap to stay here and we paid a premium price. The cabins would be terrific if a remodel was in order, maybe someday, but for now I'll look for other accomodations.

This quest did not have the kind of stay we hoped , but we did not know of their concerns until we read them on Tripadvisor.

The property changed owners Nov 1, 2010 and the new owners have just begun to bring the property back to its full potential. But that will take more than 2 months to accomplish. However many of the items mentioned in the review have already been addressed, including providing wine glasses, bath mat, new linens, replacing the heater, furniture, and providing more pots and pans.

We hope that future guests will fine our cabins a nice, clean and comfortable place to vacation.

We stayed at Alvin's for Valentine's Day Weekend. Everything was how it looks in the pictures. The cabin was small yet comfortable. However it seemed like it had only been cleaned for the outer appearance. We pulled back the sofa and couches and there was alot of dirt hidden. We told them in the office and had to ask for a broom and mop to clean and they never volunteered to help us clean it. The price was cheap so it was still worth it since it was six of us. You get what you pay for if you are picky and are looking for something more upscale look for another place but if you dont mind roughing it out a little and saving some money this place is for you.

We planned a short weekend getaway but decided to extend our stay due to the gorgeous settings in the midst of outdoors with spectacular displays of autumn foliage and the numerous nearby attractions.

We initially booked one of their efficiency (adjoining) units but the noise from next door has altered our plans and we changed for the pricier individual cabin. The cabins are two-bedroom units that sleep four, with a bathroom, a kitchen and a cozy fireplace. We were happy with this arrangement as it was spacious and very convenient - although, the decor and furniture could use a serious makeover...

Tannersville, to the south is only 2 miles away, with pharmacy, grocery stores, and restaurants, and last but not least the Crossings Outlet Stores. The nearby Camelback Mountain and the Tannersville Cranberry Bog offer great outdoor activities. We took the small winding roads to the north when we visited Bushkill Falls ("Pennsylvania's Niagara Falls") and Shawnee for the annual Lumberjack and Hot Air Balloon Festival, which allowed us to capture the true essence of the Pocono Mountains.

Overall, we had a great time, and Alvin's affordable accommodations with its fabulous surroundings was a great value.
