We loved our stay at The Barley Sheaf. Upon arrival, we were offered a glass of champagne and taken to our suite. The furniture, decor and ambience took us back in time. Loved that you have the modern amenities but the old world feel. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. We planned to go into New Hope but it would have been enjoyable to just relax at the inn. The pictures on the website are accurate and I found no fault with the operation. My massage with Christy was awesome!

Room Tip: The cottage suites have connecting doors which are nice if traveling with friends or family.

We stayed at the Barley Sheaf in late April/early May and it was delightful. We stayed in the Stage Door Room and it had a wonderful balcony facing out to the back yard and the swimming pool (too cool to swim sadly). The spring flowers had just started to bloom and the air was sweet! We sat in the sun on the balcony and enjoyed wine and cheese in the afternoons. We took part of one of their spa packages and felt really treated! The staff there is wonderful and friendly and refuse to let you lift a finger. You will really feel pampered when you stay here. I have nothing negative to say. There is ample parking and you can take a walk back on the grounds to see their pot belly pigs (really cute!) and miniature horses. The breakfasts are prepared fresh and there's a choice and they were always great! I was sad to leave!

Room Tip: I personally think the rooms on the back with the balconies are the best, but I don't think you...

My husband and I had our wedding at Barley Sheaf it was truly a dream come true ! It was perfect in every way. The staff, grounds , decor , and over all experience was amazing. Our guest continue to compliment out pictures, and how fabulous our wedding was!

My husband and I spent 6 nights on the grounds the week after our wedding in one or the glorious suites. If you are looking for an unbelievable atmosphere to hold your special event we highly recommend The Inn at Barley Sheaf.

My fiance and I needed to get away from New York City and our stressful jobs on Wall Street and in the fashion industry. Friends of ours who are on Broadway recommended it to us, as Barley Sheaf Farm has hosted a fundraiser for Broadway Cares and events featuring James Earl Jones, Bebe Neuwirth and Tyne Daly. We came to get out of the city and find some peace in the countryside. We could not have chosen a better place. The property is gorgeous, with gardens overflowing with cherry blossoms, magnolia and climbing wisteria vines covering the countless arbors and trellises. The views are spectacular over horse pastures, wildflower fields and woods. It turns out the animals here are all rescues - miniature horses, goats, pigs and sheep. There is a private exercise cottage beside the miniature horses, with all the latest equipment. Brunch was as good as any I've had in New York, and set in the middle of a garden. We saw a great blue heron and a red-tailed hawk. Insider's secret: ask for room service in front of your fireplace. They don't advertise it, but are willing to do pretty much anything to make you happy. (We were kind of demanding!) We drove 1/4 mile to walk around Peddler's Village and 4 miles to New Hope the first day, but just decided to stay at the inn the rest of our stay, because it was so relaxing and romantic. If you don't love this place, you don't know fine lodging and food. We will be back and I'm even considering getting married here. Their barn space is magical!

My husband & I have been lucky enough to stay at this Inn a few times. We have a relative near there that is ill, so we have had to return quite often. Each visit is better than the last. All visits have been in winter, & it was still a great place to be. We look forward to returning now that the weather has improved. The suites are all exquisite, the staff could not be better, friendlier. Mona & Kristen are supurb. They make us feel like family. The breakfasts/brunch, which are included in the per night rates, cannot be beat. There is such a variety from fruits, pastries, cakes, all homemade, to the entrees which range from "Sticky Bun french toast", to omelets, & more. coffee, juice, mimosas, all included. Just cannot say enough about the entire experience.

Room Tip: Each time we have stayed in a different suite. they ALL have been terrific. although the ones over...

Realizing that we traveled during a time of year that is not the prettiest, we still could get a feel for what is offered at this B&B. We were not really impressed. We may be a little influenced by the fact the price per night was more expensive than a stay we had last summer at a castle in Ireland, and this was after having a buy one night get one night free coupon. This was NO castle!
Our first impression was that it was a very nice building with many antiques. Some of the exterior features, like the pool area, appeared in need of reconditioning or a makeover. As we settled in to the June Moon Suite we realized that not all was wonderful. Entering the bathroom, the cover for the fan unit was dangling from the ceiling. (Hard to fathom how someone could miss that.) That was easy to reinstall ourselves. The chairs were dated and uncomfortable. Beds can be a personal preference, but we found this one to not be very comfortable for us and welcomed our own bed upon arriving home.
A suggestion to this establishment would be...if you are going to put out those little cards that say BE GREEN, please do what it says you would do. We placed our towels on the racks to be reused the following day as directed. We returned to the room to find all new towels replacing those we intended to reuse.
This Inn does offer an in room safe and complimentary snacks. (Bottles of water, soda, chips and nuts.) The breakfast was good and the chef/server very pleasant. The only real negative to the meal would be that the muffins seemed like that were several days old. Again, it was good, not great. Maybe we haved been spoiled by many other B&B's that serve a breakfast that is not only delicious, but has a WOW factor.
There are some very nice common areas in the main building. It was nice to walk around the grounds. As we noted above, the time of year was NOT ideal, but it was the time we had available. They were just beginning to put out some flowers to help decorate the facilities, which added a little flair. During many of our previous B&B stays it has been a particular pleasure to get to know the owners, but in this case they were nowhere to be found. Maybe they found a nice B&B to stay at.
Overall this stay was underwhelming. The rooms are overpriced for what is offered.

I wanted to like this hotel, but it is quite disappointing. For a property that is positioning itself as high end (and charging upwards of $400-500 a night for a suite in a relatively rural area), they should really bring this place out of the seventies.

We stayed here on two occasions in the past year, both times in suites in the bankbarn. The kitchens and bathrooms in these suites were at least 30 years old I'd wager (notice they are not photographed). The decor was goofy, old (but not in a charming way) and even a tad musty.
On our second stay, we had no heat, and a malfunctioning phone, too (and my cell was left in the charger in my car, so I just tried to stay warm under the covers). Hardly the stay you hope for at these prices.

The Pros?
The tree lined drive is so lovely, and the view as you pull up to the hotel is picture perfect. The dining room is lovely (though here too they could use a decorator, it is a little goofy) and breakfast/brunch is very good (not 5 star but very good). Service was pleasant.

The Cons
The property itself is pretty, but not in a terribly picturesque area. And the pool area and such are a bit rundown. Rooms in the bankbarn need a total redo to befit the price range.

Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for your comments. In fact, the barn dates back over 200 years. Many of our guests appreciate the history of the building and it is for that reason that we preserve many original features, such as exposed barn beams, barn wood cabinets and wide plank wood flooring.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay enough to return and stay again. We encourage you to try one of our manor house suites on your next visit. Many (although not all) of these suites have a more modern feel and marble bathrooms, which may appeal to you.
Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back.
