Good position with amazing views. The resort is of an unbelievable design but needs much maintainance, but don't let that put you off.The safari trips, bush breakfast and microlight trips were unforgettable!Very friendly staff and excellent meals.

We arrived not knowing what to expect - main building was a lovely place with great views over the bush but small living huts were tired, in need of decoration and a proper clean. The idea is good but standards were not as high as you would probably expect. On the plus side the game drives and overall experience made the trip worthwhile - in particular the guides were wonderful - full of knowledge and humour. We managed to see 4 out of the big 5 - the leopard eluding us. Food was reasonably good for the location but portions were enormous. Breakfast after the early morning drive was especially welcome. We also went to the Kruger which is about 45 mins drive away. Well worth the experience but completely different to Kwa Madwala which was much more rugged and authentic. The bush walk was also worth doing.

Room tip - if you want full sun on your balcony then ask for hut numbers 18-26.

May I just say that I have read some of the reviews for this Game Reserve and would like to say that you should go with an open mind. This is a Bush Camp, not a 5 star hotel and the rooms are built with the wilderness in mind, with outdoor shower, nets over beds and windows with fabulous views. I found the staff at this reserve very friendly and genuine. The waiting staff were very attentive. The chefs not only prepared delicious varied food, but had a great sense of humour with fabulous smiles that made everyone laugh. The rangers had so much insight and information about the bush and wildlife and we felt that we had learned so much from them. I had a great time and was sad to leave them. Whilst we did see Rhino, Impala, various birds, Hippo and wildebeast at this reserve, we would recommend doing a half day or full day trip to Kruger National Park, as there is more chance to see Elephant, Lion and Leopard there. This can be arranged via Kwa Madwala staff.

We stayed at Kwa Madwala in Sep 2011 as part of our honeymoon.

The room was lovely and clean and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The receptionist was useless and didn't have a clue what she was doing, when you asked her a question she said she would find out and come back to you but never did. The spa was never open and the therapist was off sick for the 3 days we were there and you couldn't book horse riding or the elephant rides or encounters as there were book up with schools staying as one of their other lodges. They said it was quite so it would be even worse when they are busy.

We were sold this safari by Heyes & Jarvis and had been advised that it was in Kruger national park. It was not in Kruger and it took a 1 hour drive to get to Kruger at a cost of £160 for 2 for the day game drive.

Kwa Madwala is good but you only need a few drives as we saw everything on our first outing and still had another 6 drives to go. They only have 3 Lions, 7 Elephant, 9 Giraffe and 5 Rhinos. They said there was 1 leopard but no one had seen it.

We had a nice time but it was not what we were sold or expected so disappointed and it was not worth the money, you only get 1 honeymoon.

The food was digusting, the service worse, at breakfast the bacon was off!! We saw no evidence of how this establishment managed to get 4 stars. The beds were uncomfortabel and resembled hospital beds on wheels, poor quality linen, feathers poked through the pillow cases, the bath took ages to run. No ambience, it was awful, we left early - worst accomodation I have ever come across. The "spa" is a shack exposed to the elements and looks as though the Crusoe family recently evacuated it. It was locked closed.

Stayed two nights in the rock camp in luxurious rooms with spectacular views! The food was excellent, some of the best we had in South Africa. All staff were helpful and enthusiastic. Having been on a large safari trip in public reserves in Tanzania we found the safaris at Kwa Mdwala a very different experience. Game less plentiful but more intimate with excellent and knowledgeable guides. We did see white rhino, elephants, and two lions! We didnt take the option to travel into the Kruger but they do offer it at an extra cost. Definitely recommenend the walking sarafis with truly knowledgeable local guides. The spa was a unique and very enjoyable experience.

We spent 4 days on safari in Kwa Madwala and enjoyed every minute! With this type of vacation what you get is what you make of it and the experience was phenominal! The wildlife experince was first class, the hotel was great, the food was great and the stafff were outstanding! Could not fault the location for a ifrst time safari experience for a family of 3 children - 9, 11 and 15! Perfect!!
Although we had hard days of animal experience - not the big 5 every time - the experience was genuine! and that's sometimes more important than animal spotting! The experience and the resort is one I would not hesitate to recommend! Perfect if you can spend Saw 4 of the big 5..apart from leopard, experienced driver was a massive help with the kids, and they really reponded to his local knowledge on anaimal, plants and wildwife! A wonderful experience was discussing the sky at sunset and the stars on the African sky!On slight negative on our 5 days was the Boma not for kids .....nor me......too many beasties on my plate!! (IIn Scotland we tend not to see too many beasties!)
Overview - Brilliant - and importantly to make it a first class expericne for all, your kids need to appreciate the wildlife is truly wild! Screaming out of the question.....we had some younger kids (under 6) from SA for whom it was all too much!

Kwa Madwala - I will return!
