This hotel is absolutely charming. One of the best addresses in China for sure. Do not expect luxury there but a place full of history with a great atmosphere. The perfect place to stay in Jianshui. The location is great too nearby the pedestrian area with good local restaurants. I really enjoyed my stay and recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a wonderful local experience on her or his way to Yuanyang.

The reason to stay in this hotel must be the historical atmosphere. Do not expect excessive luxury. We stayed there one night as part of a tour and we definetely liked the stay and the experience. Our room was small but comfortable. No airco but a fan and the open window. Bathroom is ok. Location is perfect, right next to the old town, and the old town can be a bit noisy. Plenty of restaurants and shops to choose from. Breakfast was simple but adequate. All in all we enjoyed our stay and the visit next morning to the grounds.

Stayed one night. Room near the reception, quite noisy (avoid if you can). Beds very hard, even for Chinese standards; I do appreciate hard bedding, but this was too much. Unfriendly staff, very limited english. Breakfast :instant coffee, toast, butter but no jam and instant orange juice. Room was dark, but clean.

Stayed two nights at this special place in room 315. Very quiet once the folkloric show nearby is finished at 10pm. Friendly staff with very limited english knowledge. Breakfast selection very limited with instant coffee, toast, butter but no jam and instant orange juice. Room was clean and dark due to the architecture. The bathroom looked very new.

This hotel is by far the best in the little ancient town. Hotel is in the old Zhu's house, which means all the rooms used to be rooms of people who lived there in the Qing dynasty. The rooms itself is not that special, but just the fact it's in the historical spot is enough to make it up. I, holding a Chinese passport (even though I have western life style), was not given a western breakfast brochure, then I had to eat noodles for breakfast. That was not cool. But I don't blame people in a little town judging people from the color of their skin. It's a nice town, quite and special hotel, that's enough.

This old mansion is absolutely fantastic.
Set on 20000 square meters land with over 400 rooms, 40 halls and 70 courtyards, all in typically chinese style... You wander through time long gone and ask yourself how lucky you are To experience this. Do not miss this opportunity.
The hotel only use a portion of the mansion And it is well worth a stay to meander around in the evening and morning without a soul to disturb you. The rooms are nothing extraordinary though.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights near the end of January 2012 with our tour group. It is part of what was once part of the Zhou family home. It is located in the beautiful gardens. The rooms comprise what were the rooms of this family that numbered somewhere near two hundred. Our room was large enough with two single beds. One bed was a traditional dynasty-style bed. The furniture also reflected that style. The bathroom, though small, was fine. The shower was hot and clean, although it did not drain properly. There was also a foul smell coming from the bathroom at times, especially when others were using the water. The amenities were usual for a hotel. Since this domain is now a public heritage site, and our visit coincided with Chinese Spring Festival, there were numerous local tourists about. It was not unusual to have people trying our door to see if they could peek into the room. It was also noisy until about 10 p.m.. After though it was quiet and peaceful. It seemed as if we were the only group there for breakfast. We were served toast, eggs, jam hot coffee and tea, as well as some fruit. It was not bountiful, but adequate. Our room came equipped with its own computer for free internet usage.

The grounds are located next to a wonderful pedestrian area with various shops and restaurants. Indeed it sits in the old city of Jianshui where many sights are available by walking.

If you travel to this part of China in January it is quite cold (about 3 or 4 degrees Celsius in the morning, warming up to about 10 – 14 in the daytime). The room for the breakfast area does not have any heater or heating system. The hotel does provide extra blankets in the room. Nevertheless the room was cold and damp.

We would recommend this hotel for its ancient Chinese ambiance, cleanliness and location.
