“A good bargain in San Juan del Sur!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2013

Compared to the other more expensive hotels in San Juan del Sur this hotel is a very good alternative. The room costs $57 for two people, and it is clean, and spacious. Rooms on the second floor have a great view of the bay and San Juan del Sur.

The night life and the restaurants are only a short walk away, and it takes only 5 minutes to the beach. The breakfast is included in the price and it is tasty too. Another great feature is being able to park the car in the hotel inner courtyard, which is very safe.

All in all, this is a good place to stay.

This hotel is nice, it's not one of the big luxury ones in town but it is comfortable. I really like the location of this spot, it is set back from the beach (maybe 5 or 6 blocks) and that makes it ideal if you want to be able to get away from the noise at night. San Juan is an active town with a busy nightlife. Fun to be in, but nice to get out from.

The hotel is a little dated but there is nothing wrong with it. For $75 a night it is a value pick for San Juan (San Juan is very tourist oriented and, therefore, pricier than other towns of it's size in Nicaragua).

Rooms are quite sparse and basic, although they are clean and do offer air conditioning (it's optional). An important thing about staying in San Juan is to make sure that the hotel you're staying at has a generator. San Juan is has grown a little too quickly and power grid gives out somewhat frequently.

If you're looking for a budget-friendly, comfortable, no frills spot. This is it.

We booked this place on the back of a good review in the lonely planet, but since that was written I think a number of better options have sprung up in the town of San Juan. This seemed to me to be a no-frills motel. with facilities that work, but look a bit drab. That said, it is not hugely expensive. They need need to modernise a little. They're reservations system is a book with illegible scribbles in it and as a result they had no record of my booking. If I come back to San Juan I will look for somewhere else to stay.

San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. We all fell in love with this gem in a country not well travelled...yet!!
A dusty street leads from the hotel to the gorgeous ocean beach. Restaurants on either side, Tremendous piles of tropical fruit (ask them tp peel and slice the huge, fresh pineapples).Meals are so inexpensive and delicious. Their beer and Flor de Canya Rum, better than thirst quenching.
Getting there is not always easy. The Royal Chateau was a solitude in a tropical garden. The coffee is worth the trip alone. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed this tranquil town.

Room Tip: 2 storeys; all rooms face the court yard. In January 2012, $50 p/n, including breakfast, which is se...

This is a great spot in San Juan del Sur. It's about 4 blocks back from the main drag, which makes it convenient to everything, but far enough back so that the noise is minimal. The room we stayed in is quite spacious, as was the bathroom. We opted for air conditioning, which in San Juan is must for us.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. San Juan experiences many, extended power outages. This hotel has a generator to keep the power running when it happens. A definite plus. The first hotel we stayed in did not have this and the power was out for about 4 hours when we arrived, then was on for a couple hours and out again for a few more hours. Without a fan or air conditioning, it becomes quite stuffy in the rooms, so having the generator back up saved our sanity.

If you are driving, they offer a large secure car park on the grounds of the hotel.

One thing you will be missing out on is a view of the ocean, so if that's important, this isn't the spot for you. However, it's a short walk to the beach.

There is no pool or restaurant attached, although there is quick access to many nice places to eat nearby.

My wife and I stayed there from Friday 20th April to Monday 23rd April and I can only say that this hotel is the best place to stay in San Juan del Sur. The hotel is situated at the end of the main street leading to the beach in a secure compound free from the noise of the town yet in easy reach by foot of all the town's amenities and the beach. The hotel has a very pleasant restaurant area where you can enjoy a beer and a cool breeze into the night. The owners and the staff are warm and friendly and our room was cleaned daily to an immaculate standard. We felt totally safe staying there and enjoyed the ambience. I would rather stay there for $57 a night including breakfast for the two of us than any of the more expensive venues that I visited during my stay, including those on the beach. I thoroughly recommend this hotel in terms of a brilliant place to stay and value for money.

We stayed for three nights. Our room looked good on arrival but we noticed it had an ant problem which meant we had to constantly spray the walls and bathroom with bug spray.

Cable TV was good and we enjoyed the breakfasts. It's also close to town.

Every night, dogs on the adjoining street barked at each other all night. This is not the hotels fault but it's worth considering when picking your SJDS place. We'd recommend El Jardin which is a couple of miles out of town.
