“Lovely at night, very entertaining”

Reviewed 3 July 2014

Lots of locals and travelers intermingling, getting their buzz on and enjoying the town. I wasn't there to surf but met some very interesting people while I was there. I have fond memories.

Im skeptical about vacation beaches that don't have the typical clear blue waters and white sand. SJDL beach however was awesome! It was so much fun to play in the waves, and the water actually is clear most of the days, the sand it just darker therefore the water the looks darker. We walked all the way to the end of the beach underneath the Jesus, and swam all the way back to the other side. Tons of fun!

Loved it, so peaceful and wonderful place to visit. The water was so clear and I enjoyed the great people of San Juan. Very welcoming location. Definitely worth visiting.

We did a private snorkeling tour with Rana Tours. It cost an extra $45. What a huge mistake! It was supposed to be a 3 hour snorkeling excursion. What should have been a 40 minute boat ride to Costa Blanca beach turned out to be over an hour due to our "guides" going very slow so they could fish. Needless to say, this cut out almost an hour of our time. When we got there, they gave us masks that were not washed or sanitized. They just rinsed them off in the sea water. During the actual snorkeling, we saw maybe 3 fish. We went to the beach and spent most of the time picking up sea shells. On the way back, they took their time again, more interested in fishing than assuring we had a good tour. We passed by another tour boat and they handed off the masks we had just used, once again without washing or sanitizing the snorkeling equipment. Stay away from this company, you will be disappointed!

We did not have high expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised by the nice beach. We were there in the morning, so it was quite quiet...a few people swimming and sun bathing. We took off our shoes and walked in the surf, stopping on the way back to sample the local beer at a beach side restaurant. It was quite good and very reasonable at only $1.50 USD. The small town had some unexpected surprises...a cart pulled by two long horn oxen and two goats being reluctantly led by two boys on bicycles. Local flavour!
