Casa Pelon is a beautiful hostel right near the beachfront at Paya Marsella. A tranquil alternative to San Juan del Sur, this was a great place to stay to enjoy the beach. There are only two rooms, but for that reason it is super cozy. Mark built the place himself and it has real charm and personality to it.

Right when we got there we were offered a few pieces of barbecue pork and we were hooked, so we bought lunch there too. The pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and coleslaw were delectable, and the homemade pineapple jalapeno salsa was the best I think I've had.

Mark & Ernestina were great hosts. Ernestina and her two children were super sweet and a joy to talk to. Gave me a chance to practice Spanish and learn more about Nacatamales and the local conservation efforts. They woke up early to make sure we had breakfast when we needed to get on the road and were all-around accommodating.

Mark was an accommodating host during our 3 day stay in early May. He would have breakfast ready for us depending on our morning routine. He made the most incredible smoothies. His smoked bacon was really good too. It was extremely hot during our stay and without the ocean breeze, the provided fan was not enough to make the very small room bearable to sleep. No fault of his but we did have one bad night of no sleep. Mark was informative when it came to things to do, where to eat and how to get to places. He scheduled a fishing trip for us through Mango Rosa. All we had to do was show up. We spent a lot of time chilling at the beach which is an extremely short walk from the B&B. Most days we had it the entire beach to ourselves. The kitchen and shared bathroom were both pretty messy during most of our stay. Since we did not use the kitchen it was not a problem but if we had wanted to cook our own meals it may have been difficult. All and all I feel you get what you pay for at this simple B&B. A bed to sleep in and good breakfast before starting your day.

I stayed 5 days at marks beautiful place. He involved me to some lovely events in the neighborhood where I always felt welcome.
I was served a great breakfast every day, the room was clean and the kitchen was well equipped - I still used the very close restaurant around. Thanks for all and good luck!

We originally planned to stay for 2 nights to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Juan del Sur, but ended up staying for 3 nights because we were so relaxed we found it hard to leave! This is mostly due to the open plan casa where you can relax for hours and enjoy the killer beach view. The clincher though was Marks (the owner) home-smoked pork which we got to enjoy daily. Good bacon is a tough thing to find in this part of the world and i can honestly say Marks bacon was the best we've ever had!

We only stayed at Casa Pelon for 2 nights but wished we could have stayed longer. The casa is really open and comfortable with a beautiful view of the beach. It was a great place to spend a couple of days after San Juan del Sur. The real appeal of Casa Pelon is however, the owner Marc. Marc told us all about the area including local restaurants, swimming pools and how to walk to other beaches and also organised our transport when leaving. We were treated to a delicious breakfast each morning, home cooked and complete with his famous smoked pork. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend to others looking for a relaxed and homely experience at a good price.
