“Nice quiet beach!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2013

Although I didn't stay here over night I did spend the day enjoying the services and beach. While I was there ruffly February 15th 2013 or so, the water was FREEZING!!!!
Not only that the wind was really out of control, so it made surfing not so much fun. Besides that.... the beach was nice and clean, quiet, and very few people around.
I must note the beach has some of the smallest and softest grains of sand I've ever felt.

Room Tip: As far as food and service, if I was to return I would pack a lunch, drinks and food are beach price...

I discovered this treasure while checking good surf spots, its really good and close to the costa rica border.

Beach is wonderful - food is good, though not much for veggies like me .

Internet is very fast (for central america) and stable - worked a few hours, then surf :)

very recommended - if you come from costa rica, take Ticabus to Rivas, get down there and pay $10 for a taxi, 30 mins they leave you in San Juan del sur and they pick you up there and take you to the hotel, don't drive if you don't have a 4wd, the road is crazy!

Room Tip: Dorms are great, lots of space, lockers and vents. There is also mosquito nets for the winter time...

I stayed at Playa Hermosa beach hotel for 3 nights during Semana Santa. It was the perfect getaway from town. Every morning we woke up and checked the surf from our balcony. The hotel his walking distance to multiple surf breaks so we surfed a different break each day of our visit. Surfboards and boogie boards are available for rent at the hotel. The staff at the hotel are all extremely friendly and more than helpful. The wifi worked consistently and I could work from laptop and make skype calls as needed from the hotel. Each day the restaurant offered a different selection of food specials, fresh juices and coconut water. The food was delicious and sourced locally. Each night we had bon-fires on the beach and had the entire beach to ourselves. This is the perfect get-away if you want to experience the real Nicaragua and enjoy nature untouched.

A quaint hotel with a very naturesque feel. Not for one craving luxury and amenities, but rather for the visitor desiring a quiet and isolated hotel with a wood cabin feel, and large balconies with stunning views. A one-minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern Nicaragua (not to mention incredible surfing). Definitely recommend.

Wonderfull place to have relaxing time , i love the sunset and the waves. The beach is huge and there was nobody on it. Looks like a private beach. We had a room with an ocean view . the bed was comfortable. No bugs of any kind . I liked the balcony .

Room Tip: definitely Ocean view.

I've stayed here at this hotel/hostal a couple times now, and have enjoyed it very much. It is really off the beaten track, however still close enough to SJdS that you don't feel totally isolated. The beach here "Playa Hermosa" (beautiful beach in Spanish.).....really is one of the nicest beaches I've seen in Nicaragua. It's a large beach, approximately 3km if you were to walk the entire way end to end. Although it is not recommended you walk far away from the buildings, as there have been some issues in the past with robberies. I felt very safe the entire time I was there with my husband and another couple. This beach is considered to be one of the best surfing beaches in Nicaragua, and we watched several good surfers tackle some pretty huge waves! The ocean was a little cooler this year than I remember, however the weather in this part of the country has been sort of "different" this year. As with many of the beaches in Nicaragua you need to be aware of stingrays close to the shore. My husband got stung, and so did a few other people during our stay. Just remember to shuffle your feet when you enter the water, and that gets the rays moving out of your way! There has been a lot of development in the last year ,with several palapas on the beach and a little "beach bar". We rented the top floor ocean view rooms, and for $45.00 per night breakfast was included. It is very quiet most nights after 8:00pm, and you are lulled to sleep by the sound of the crashing waves. One of the highlights of our most recent stay was the sunset release of about 100 baby Olive Ridley turtles ! Playa Hermosa has a "turtle rescue" program, where they aquire turtle eggs from various locals?? The eggs are carefully guarded in a turtle hatchery, and after 42-45 days they are safely released into the sea. It was a wonderful, heartwarming experience that everyone should try to do at least once! (There are also horses available for rent $12.00) per hour. I'm sure I'll be back several times before I have to leave Nicaragua :-)

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms on the top floor are the nicest. All have mosquito nets and private bath

Beautiful spot. Allows you to catch really early waves and walk the blackened beach by night. Really depends on what you're looking for. When we stayed in 2011/2012, there were few others so the nights were wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Infrastructure is fairly basic and unless you bring your own food, you're eating what they make in the restaurant... with coconut water and beers :)

If you are looking for a party, this isn't your place.
