I was in Certaldo one day during the first week of January and pretty much everything was closed; the town seemed like a ghost town. I was lucky, though, that Messer Boccaccio was open for lunch. I stopped in and was greeted warmly. It's a large but warm dining room. I had heard so much about the Certaldo onion that when I saw gnocchi on the menu with a sauce made from it, I had to try it. IT WAS AMAZING. Simply amazing. One of the best pasta's I had in over two months in Italy.
