Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Brighouse
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 21 January 2012

Good bits first: lots of parking, spacious layout. The staff were uniformly excellent.

Okay bits next: the rooms are okay. They are nothing plush, certainly nothing like the latest in design, but they are comfortable and adequate for a night or two. Our room was on the west side of the hotel (a looooooong walk from reception) but had a pleasant view over the dale. Breakfast was distinctly average.

Bad bits: this place has to have the world's most expensive internet. How the hell they can justify £25 for two days' internet is beyond my comprehension. It wouldn't be so bad if it was fast - it isn't (barely 2Mbps). Shameful that they can so blatantly bite (nay, chomp on) the hands that feed them - the business market. I would avoid this hotel in future solely because of this repugnant and blatant gouging. Complaining to the staff only got a reply of "yes, everyone complains about it" Well, then, DO something about it.

The only thing that made that repugnant sting bearable was that I got the room so cheaply.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the western edge for the best views down the dale.

Dear BarrigntonIsTops,

I write following your recent visit to the Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse, and would like to thank you for completing an on-line review following your stay with us.

I was sorry to read that you did not fully enjoy the ‘Holiday Inn Experience’ and appreciate your comments. Constructive feedback from our guests is vital in enabling us to monitor and maintain our high levels of guest care and service. I understand that there are some Hotels that offer “free” Internet, but as I am sure you may have experienced, often these systems are narrow in bandwidth or limited in usage. The system at the Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse is market leading, providing uncontested bandwidth of 14mb/sec download and, in response to our guests requirements, we have invested a substantial amount of money in the past 18 months in order to deliver an internet solution meeting the needs of our guests for today and tomorrow.

Your views and opinions are central to our efforts, as we never forget that you always have a choice when making future bookings. I very much hope that you will continue to use Holiday Inn and that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse in the near future.

Thank you again for taking time to register your comments.

Yours sincerely

Enormous room, which was in really good condition. Arrived late, so didn't try bar or restaurant. Room service was a little disappointing, though maybe the club sandwich was the wrong choice. An accompanying glass of wine was very expensive for a run of the mill chilean cabernet sauvignon.

That said the room quality more than made up, and the breakfast was decent.

I will be back.

After another hotel in the Bramhope area of Leeds let us down, we re-booked our new years eve stopover and celebrations at this hotel only ten days before the event.
What a fantastic time we had. Every member of staff we dealt with when booking and every member of staff we came across during our stay were, without exception, helpful, warm and friendly, professional and immaculately turned out. A credit to the Holiday Inn Chain. We booked a family room for ourselves and two young teenage daughters and everyone was happy with the room and facilities! The Meal and New Year celebrations were the best we've experienced and the 2 other families with us agreed. The DJ was especially good managing to keep all ages happy! Would highly recommend. Will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: We had ground floor family room. Large, light and airy. No complaints.

We use this hotel as a stopover about twice a year when visiting family. We noticed this Christmas that many areas of service and execution in this hotel are much improved, making for a pleasant experience.
A couple of years ago, I was sometimes a little put off by lack of cleanliness in the bedrooms, which were often a bit dusty and the breakfast room with spillages and uncleaned tables - but no longer!. Everything was gleaming, breakfast items were fresh & inviting and lovely gluten free bread was provided without a hitch. I do agree with the reviewer who highlights that the breakfast coffee could be better, however, when we then purchased a coffee from the bar instead, it was very good with lots of flavour. The staff are all very friendly & helpful, check-in efficient and I received a really helpful recommendation on wine from the bar (and it was even a lovely glass of wine!).
On this occasion we ordered room service at around midnight and we were very surprised and pleased with the meals we were delivered - fresh, tasty and nicely presented.
In light of the improved service & execution, this hotel offers a good value stopover and I think I may even look forward to our twice yearly stopovers now!.

Room Tip: We seem to prefer the first floor rooms - quieter. Not a big difference when you upgrade, standard...

No point in writing much, I have said it before and others echo that this is an excellent, well run Holiday Inn with first rate staff. I am fastidious about hotels and make Alex Politzzi look like a Sunday School teacher. I have stayed here for many years and the only reason I do is because I like the place. I do wish they would perhaps increase the price a little and provide a duvet that is capable of keeping a gnat warm in winter - they are wafer thin and if they invested in new ones they would save money as you would not need the heating on all night.
The towels are also well past their sell-by date and the soap not fit for a shower. These areas need more thought but I guess the corporate bean counters at IHG dictate what can and cannot be done - a shame, this place is run by a woman (probably why it's so good),
In an area with few good hotels - this place is a beacon amongst mediocre establishments.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. The staff, especially Tony on Reception and Louise the Manager are always extremely helpful. I always have an exec room. These are well appointed and Donna the head of housekeeping is always happy to help. I do choose to stay on the 1st floor but the only negative is that there isn't a lift.
