Currently writing this whilst enjoying a lovely pint at the old ship in brighouse, from the outside looks can be deceiving , but this is a welcoming , clean and well managed pub with a great variety of real ales, In the area visiting, and not knowing anyone from Adam. But Marsha and the locals very welcoming. Well worth a visit for anyone passionate about real pubs and real landlords with banter and knowledge to boot

Good beer selection available and nice bar staff, interesting building as well, comfortable and staff offer a small taste of beer if you are not sure what you want.

“Great beers, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

We were recommended to this pub by 2 young guys we met in the street - and they were quite right about getting a good beer there! An excellent range of some local and other real ales, all kept very well and at only £2.90 a pint, very good value! . Marsha, the owner, is a very pleasant lady and well-versed in the beers she serves. We didn't try the food as we were booked in elsewhere. Good location in the middle of town and not far from the canal and a carpark.

“Quick pint”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

Visiting a friend and fresh off the train from Leeds we decided to catch a quick pint in here. My initial impression wasn't great as I could smell the lavs but we ventured in to be faced with a great choice of real Ales.. We chose BettySwollocks which was exceptional. Even more special was Nelson the pub cat and the local that gave us a tune from his guitar. Would love to go back there when we visit Brighouse again.

“My new local!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

A stone floor and timbers from an old English ship make this a lovely atmospheric place for a beer, wine, cocktail (I can especially recommend the Kir Royale!) or very decent coffee with or without liqueur. The welcome is warm and Marsha the owner certainly knows how to keep real ale. It is always served in fabulous condition so if you're a real ale aficionado make The Old Ship your first port of call in Brighouse. You won't be disappointed. With the 1940's weekend coming up on June 7th and 8th (2014) the pub will be a great place to chill in style between browsing the market, the local flower festival at Central Methodist Church and drinking in the atmosphere. Actually, it's a great place to chill I style at any time of year. Look forward to seeing you there!
