“Not great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013 via mobile

We recently visited this hotel and are In no rush to re-visit. Although the refurbished rooms look nice on the photos the reality isn't quite as satisfying.

The room has very poor lighting. No fridge and the bathroom looks tired.

The bed wasn't overly comfy although manageable for one night.

The walls must be paper thin as you can hear what everyone is saying within a 5m radius! Also every step of anyone upstairs can be heard.

To add to the disappointment the fire alarm went off for a couple of minutes at around 7am!!!!

Overall not a great visit and not planning a return in a hurry!

Thank you for your comments, all feedback is very welcome, both good and bad, however I am disappointed that no comment was made during your stay or at the check out stage. Our relationship with our guests is very important to us and had these points been raised with us directly at the time we could have had the opportunity to make things right.

I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused by the fire alarm as you can appreciate fire alarms in hotels to go off, they are there for our customer’s safety, luckily on this occasion it was a false alarm and was dealt with very efficiently by our staff to cause the least inconvenience to our guests as possible.

Kind regards
Gavin Jack

Enjoyed a one night stay. Very welcoming reception staff both on arrival and departure. Clean, tidy and well furnished room. Lots of instant hot water. Very comfortable bed for a good sleep. Extremely quiet in the room despite being close to a lift and the hotel being fairly busy. Good choice of food in the restaurant, nicely prepared and well presented. Wi-Fi was a little in / out and slow at times but OK especially as free. I would stay here again.

Having seen website and other reviews, rang to book a refurbed room rather risk being in older ones......when we got to our room, via a bit of a warren of corridors which felt more like ferry, it was a decent size with a large bathroom.

Room Lighting very dingy partly due to the low energy bulbs and poor natural light; not helped by one lamp not working and a bulb gone in bathroom.

Main problem was that the bathroom stank, I don't know how house keeping would keep room available !

Very helpful lady on reception happy to arrange a new room but warned may not be a refurbed one. She then moved us to a ground floor room close to reception at the front which was heaps better....Again decent size room and bathroom.

Bathroom worked fine but the 'refurb' struck me as being a bit cheap with what appeared to be some new wall tiling over the top of the existing ones with a clash of colour & style. I'm in the tile business, so i'm bound to notice. :)

TV remote didn't work and despite best efforts of reception staff, no replacements would either...

Breakfast OK, but restaurant & furniture looks a bit tired.

Staff all very friendly and hotel generally clean;

Location was convenient for visit to family nearby.

If our experience was typical then management need to pay more attention to the detail.

Room Tip: Ask for one at front with a more open aspect.

I am sorry to hear that you had a few issues throughout your stay with us and would like assure you that our maintenance team have investigated and dealt with them.

I am however very disappointed with your comment about the bathroom, we have had amazing comments and feedback about these so this comment has shocked me; it just goes to prove that you cannot please everyone.

Kind regards

We have stayed here a few times now on a groupon deal. The hotel in places need some updating but generally for the deal and a weekend away it's ok. The first room we went to smelt awful so we went back to reception and were offered a much better room. Although the next visit the window was broken open so again had to change but very accommodating at reception.
The 2 course for £10 in the Italian restaurant is fabulous.
Breakfast didn't disappoint either.
Spa facilities were not as clean as previous, far too much chlorine in the jacuzzi too.
We do like it here so would come again.

We have stayed twice at this hotel and yes some refurbishment needed but always spotless clean. Last time we stayed my son paid for the room and on arrival was greeted with an ice bucket with a large bottle of prosecco (lovely and cold) they had timed my arrival to perfection.
All the staff are hardworking and courteous nothing is a problem so if you are not happy with anything at all just approach somebody. We love the restaurant and the food is always delicious and breakfast ... well what can I say brilliant.. after all how can you mess up a good English breakfast.. just what you need before you leave and well worth the price too...

Room Tip: ask the hotel which are the quiet rooms especially if you have a child or children with you.

Stayed as a resident of this hotel following a function and after staying in the past I immediately noticed a huge change. It's clear to see the management/owners are spending time and money on upgrading this hotel. I was allocated a room which was freshly refurbished. A major improvement. Food great as ever and breakfast was of a good quality. Will return.

I booked my 40th birthday at the hotel as we had had our wedding reception there in 2006 and we were very impressed by everything. This time the booking process and event co ordinator were absolutely fine, no problems, on the day I was told the function room would be available from twelve noon to decorate etc. upon my arrival at approx 1.30pm the staff were friendly but then.... We went up to the room and found none of the tables set up, new furniture (obviously bought for the renovations) were being stored in the room and there had obviously been a function on the night before as balloons and decorations were still there. I asked the woman at reception to sort it but she didn't seem too botherd! Luckily we live in gomersal so left the decorations in the room and went home to return later approx 4.30pm, the room was indeed clean but I had asked for the tables to be set out in a specific way as I had booked a dj and tribute act, but they weren't, all the staff were busy as they had weddings on so we sorted the tables ourselves. The room we stayed in was free as we were the function hosts so I can't really complain but a member of our party had one of the upgraded rooms which was lovely, great decor, clean etc. the function itself was fine, food amazing, but we only had one member of staff behind the bar, she was great though and worked her socks off until someone complained and another member of staff came to help, the bar closed on time. The day after breakfast was delicious with good choice, fruit, cereal, toast, full English etc, the only point I can complain about is we had to wait till the end of our meal to be offered tea and coffee, whilst other people that were seated after us were served first! So overall a mixed bag, standards have lowered slightly since our last visit, but maybe the weddings take too much of a priority?? Well that's how I felt anyway! I would return though as like I have said we had our wedding reception there so it will always be a special place with wonderful memories.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review.

I am sorry that the room was not ready for you when you arrived however the reception team got it sorted straight away for you.

It was lovely to hear that our newly refurbished bedrooms have went down extremeley well and that the food quality and service was still at our high standards.

Kindest regards
