“What a good kitchen!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Remembering a good meal three years ago when we'd also exchanged homes with a local couple, we had a week to try out several local eateries and decided to revisit the Stubbing Wharf for our first night. We scraped in with the last booking available for 8.00 pm. Most of the diners seemed to be visitors but there was a smattering of locals, giving a good natured vibe.

As my wife wasn't very hungry, she chose a starter from the specials board, smoked duck with sesame potato salad & soy & ginger sauce. She generously gave me a taste and I nearly panicked-had I chosen the wrong dish? The taste was an absolute triumph, such gorgeous flavours blended beautifully. The previous evening we had been at the Fishpool Inn, Cheshire, when a companion had the Lamb Henry & I was quite jealous of his choice. Funny how things come to pass as the Wharf also did Lamb Henry. My eyes lit up and I didn't even check out the rest of the menu.

It turned out to be gorgeous, with lots of minted gravy which I adore. The draft Aspalls cider really complemented our dishes & left us really happy bunnies. I only hope it's not another three years before we enjoy another great meal here.

“Lovely pub grub”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We are four women who stumbled upon this pub when we came to Hebden Bridge hiking. We all enjoyed our meals. Three of us ordered the steak and ale pie which came with a lovely plate of fresh vegetables and quite a good variety too and one of us ordered the lasagna. All of us said we would eat here next time we visit Hebden Bridge and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pub. The tiger beer was lovely too.

“Good, solid, English pub grub”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

This place has been busy every night for the past 2 weeks and we were lucky to squeeze in. Great selection of local, handcrafted beers on tap and a good menu. Good size portions and reasonably priced too. It's small and packed so can be a bit noisy, but pleasant atmosphere. A great feed after a big walk in the Dales!

“Lovely pub by the canal”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Friendly, good beer, tasty meal. Attractive setting by the canal. It is possible to sit outside by the canal. I chose to sit inside to hobnob with the locals. Tip: book in advance - it seems to be a very popular place.

“Very Busy Pub Even Midweek Lunch”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

First visit for husbands birthday lunch, Surprised how busy at 1pm Wednesday. Struggled to get a table but then did , very small card size table size corner table. struggled for room for food, and table was very sticky! Decent pub style menu with early bird 2 course £10.

You order at the food point with table number. Ordered off this menu 2 soups a prawn cocktail and three steak and ale pies. Soup very thick so glad I did not have it, prawn cocktail passable.

Struggled with pies as limited room on plate made it impossible to tip pie onto plate, pies lovely soft meat and proper crust but very strong beer taste spoiled it a bit. We were served a nice selection of vegetables but they were essentially raw could not have had more then two minutes in the pan. The service was pretty slow but staff all very pleasant and polite. Not sure would go again but have had a lot worse for more money.
