Description: The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history, the stunning countryside of the Pennines, and the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. Although nestled in the centre of the town near the ‘Yorkshire Bohemian’ shops for which Hebden Bridge is quite famous; the countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn. And that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way, or the more recent Tour De France cycle route. If sight-seeing is more your activity, then the famous sites of Haworth (with its Bronte Sisters and Railway Children heritage) and the World Heritage Site of Salts Mill in Saltaire, are all within very easy access. Close enough to the main rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the White Lion is ideally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished Boutique bedrooms, with Victorian Roll-Top baths, Sleigh beds, and deep luxurious colours; are complemented by our cosy Courtyard Cottages - perfect for walkers, dog friendly, and with the riverside literally at your front door. All rooms benefit from free Wifi. Dated 1657, the White Lion is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! We very much look forward to extending a real Yorkshire welcome to you soon...

We took the chance of asking for a table for two during the Sttreetchoir Festival and were in luck. Our meals were locally sourced and each meal, duck and lamb were delicious.

Came last night as a party of 5 for the first time. We all had different starters and mains, a couple of bottles of wine and a few soft drinks/ ciders. The food was gorgeous, I had the tasty chorizo sausage and the beef stew. But the size of the portions was so huge I could only eat half my stew. Working out at only 30 pound a head it was definitely value for money and was good quality, well cooked food. Will definitely be back.

The second disappointment in two months the first time we sat in the bear garden in June and sat on chewing gum now unremovable from the car seats. Came back this evening for a romantic meal got a table and drinks 7.35pm only to be told they are now too busy due to a private party and no longer serving food. However food still coming out and and reserved tables next to us. Always loved this place now not so sure, they need to look after their locals. What's happened to the pub I have been coming too for over 30 years.

We'd had a really busy day exploring and were absolutely starving. The restaurant is really nice, with a lovely atmosphere and typical Yorkshire hospitality. We both ordered the burger and home made chips, with side salad and coleslaw as part of the meal. The burger was really good as was the salad and coleslaw. My partner's chips were perfect - but mine were burnt, with some like slivers of charcoal. When I mentioned it to the waitress she said she'd noticed it as she was bring them over (but did nothing about it?). When we went to pay the manager asked if everything was OK and I said the meal was really good, apart from the burnt chips. He just said that next time we came they would be perfect - as that was almost at the end of our holiday it wasn't a good answer. I thought they might have deducted a small amount to cover the fact that the chips were inedible. Hey ho.. however, as the rest of the meal was really good we'd go back again, but ask them to make sure the chips weren't burnt that time.
