Description: We are a small and friendly, community centric cafe that strives to meet the needs of the 'Park People'. We are located in the old pavillion in Calder Holmes Park, with the river on one side and the beautiful canal on the other. We serve quality food from a simple but varied menu with meat and vegetarian options, the ingredients for which are locally and ethically sourced. Choose from a range of freshly prepared sandwiches and salads, fresh fruit smoothies, great fairtrade and organic coffee, the tasty Park Life Burger, falafel pitta or a good ol' bacon butty! We offer 22 exciting and enticing flavours of local dairy ice cream that is served from our hatch at the side of the cafe building. Sit inside and listen to some good tunes, read from our bookshelf or flick through one of the interesting magazines we subscribe to. Or just look out the window, out across the old bowling green and watch the birds busy in the treetops. We pride ourselves on our strong community ethos (having been qualified youth and community workers in another life!) and work closely with the Friends of Calder Holmes Park to try and improve and develop the park, a valuable and dynamic public space.

Small friendly cafe with quality food, owned by a creative and caring young couple. Great cafe during the Summer owing to the fact that there is lots of space outside with tables and chairs on the old bowling green. Highly recommended.

Perfect spot for a caff. Food and drink looked nice but unfortunately did not get to sample. Staff did not even acknowledge my presence after a significant wait at the counter, turned their back on me, talked to their friends over me and responded rudely when I dared to ask what drinks were available. So walked out - and won't be returning - ever.

Hello there, sorry not to have responded sooner, we have only just begun to use trip advisor. We would like to apologise profusely about your experience with us and to assure you that we take this kind of complaint very seriously. As a cafe that takes pride in its customer service we are mortified that you felt ignored. We can only assume that we were very busy and due to our small food preparation area being connected to the order point, staff had had to focus on getting existing orders out before taking any more. We are currently designing a training programme that we hope to use with staff before the busy season begins to improve service and efficiency and will also ensure that customers are made aware of waiting times.

a really great place to sit as it is in the middle of the park, next to what used to be the bowling green. fantastic if you have children, we sometimes take them after school they can run about safely within view but without bothering any other customers. food is straightforward but well thought out to cater for different tastes. two very nice young people running it.

We love it here, especially on a sunny day. Right in the centre of a lovely park. They have use of the bowling green and toddlers and adults alike can relax on the green on deck chairs and enjoy a nice latte. Good veggy hotdogs ! Limited seating inside if a rainy day however.

A wet Sunday in Hebden Bridge and we stumbled into Park Life for coffee and a sandwich. There are only a couple of tables in what used to be the park keeper's office but the welcome was good and we whiled away the time listening to Cuban music (Guantanamera anyone?) and reading a Banksy folio and 101 Poems to Keep You Sane.
The is a strong emphasis on Fairtrade but the menu is wide ranging - from bacon butties to humus salads, fresh cakes and a dozen or so ice cream flavours to choose from. They even have a guitar for customers to play. Oh, and the loyalty card has double points if you call on when it's raining.
