“A christmas to remember”
Reviewed 26 December 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from a perfect Christmas getaway at the Wheatley arms. From start to finish we received excellent service and this place really made our first Christmas as a married couple very special.

Check in was quick and efficient and our room was lovely. Lots of daft little touches that make this place stand out from the crowd- I.e. Proper mugs in the room, Yorkshire tea bags (not cheap rubbish!) and robes in the room. The price was very reasonable for the modernly decorated and very clean room.

The staff were bubbly, friendly and attentive- exactly what you want in a 'proper pub'! Good banter, good atmosphere but still an air of professionalism about the place.

Food here was awesome! Don't get me started on the scrambled eggs and pancakes! Xmas day food was beautiful, courses were well spread out but this suited us perfectly, no one wants to rush through Xmas dinner!!

A special thanks to Kate the bubbly lady who went out of her way to make sure everyone was happy. Steve who was very helpful during booking and let us chill with a real ale on Xmas night with his adorable pooch and finally the lovely wee blonde girl who served our breakfast on Xmas day - very helpful and friendly and started our Xmas day off on the right note!

All in all a very comfortable, laid back and memorable Christmas here. If this is how good a place performs under pressure at such a busy time it shows excellent management and what a good team they are. We will most certainly be back.

Thank you very much

The Botwrights xx

Oh dear. What a shame you feel you have had to leave it some 4 months after your visit to complain, for what seems to have been a catalogue of errors with your food and service, yet none of us can recall or remember any major complaints?? There is always myself or my Deputy Manager on duty. Perhaps something should of been mentioned at the time.

Ah well our loss and Morrisons gain!!

Best Wishes
Kate

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. We were shown to our room by a lovely girl who also booked us a taxi for us for later that evening. The room was nicely furnished and there was quality treats( flapjack, chocolate brownies) on the tea tray.
Our taxi didn't turn up so the manager/owner did no more than get her car and take us to our destination herself. Sadly we only experienced breakfast here, but that was beautifully presented and the service was yet again second to none.
Family atmosphere and great location

We love the Wheatley. Kate and her team are always very welcoming and service is excellent. The early bird offers great value and the a la carte and specials add to the choice! I would recommend visiting (and booking) on a Sunday as the roasts are to die for and there is always a warm family atmosphere about the place, we usually visit later in the day and stay for the quiz which is always great fun :)
They also have the most gorgeous hotel rooms all individually styled and at a good price too.
Thanks for being fab and we look forward to christmas time with you again (it was gorgeous last year....you need to give the interior designer a raise!)

We stayed for one night in Room 10 on the second floor. This room is tastefully styled, if a little on the small side. The bed was large and comfortable.
There is a compact shower room and a small fridge. Everything was very clean and fresh.
We ate in the restaurant on a Saturday night and were impressed by the food. The atmosphere was relaxed with a good mix of diners. The bar had a good selection of cask ales at reasonable prices for a hotel.
The Cow & Calf Rocks on Ilkley Moor are a (very steep!) 15 minute walk away.
Overall, this is a lovely place to stay and we will almost certainly return.

I am up in this region often and as yet I struggle to find anything I could say I like to return to, in the past I stayed at the more expensive Chevin Lodge but have never been happy
The Wheatley is a little further out for me but we'll worth the extra distance as I could not fault the place
I was greeted by a very helpful friendly lady at reception who was able to advise me which room would be most suitable, the room was better than most at this price range and with more home comforts
The food in the restaurant was also exceptional, I had the prawn cocktail with a twist and will have it on my next visit
A good nights sleep a nice meal and a couple of pints of local Ale means that I will be returning

Room Tip: I had initially booked an extra comfort room but it did not have a bath I was then given Room 5. Thi...

I joined a large group here for our Annual Luncheon. Numbers should have been restricted - the dining area was much too crowded, subsequently very noisy and claustrophobic. The meal took and AGE to serve - about an hour between each course - very tedious. I think more staff should have been brought in for such a lot of people. Also the room was too hot.
The food was nice - hot and tasty - but the menu said gravy and there was none, so a bit dry.
I haven't stayed here for a night and it's certainly a nice building, but I just wasn't as impressed with the service and food as I wanted to be.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Firstly I would just like to mention that we did not actually sell tickets for the luncheon. It was the organisers, and they were fully aware of how many people could fit into that room. We were actually 14 covers off full capacity on the day.

We followed the itinerary for the day as was given.

We were initially told that everything was running 20 minutes behind schedule(late arrivals etc) and due to the fact that there was a guest speaker who spoke for 45 minutes before lunch as well as another speaker after each course it perhaps did seem like an AGE before you got your food..On occasions like this it is not always the venue that is at fault.....
Kind Regards
