We have stayed many times at the Masons Arms a sister Inn to the Wheatley and part of the individual Inns group, six in all. We thought that a change of scenery would be nice and plumped for a visit to Yorkshire.

We stayed two nights the 8th and 9th May and ate in the restaurant on both nights. The food was excellent with a good choice of both food and wine, cask ales on the bar and all in all a very good experience.

A large bedroom and a bathroom with a double shower, all very clean and with the usual TV, tea making facilities, et al.

Around a twenty minute brisk walk in to Ilkely a mini Harrogate, even boasts a Betty's tea room.!!!!!

My wife and I would recommend a visit and will definitely return.

Room Tip: We stayed in room no 3, a large room with a balcony to sit out if the weather is favourable, this ro...

We stayed at The Wheatley Arms for a night away. We visit Ilkley regularly and have stayed in various places in the centre of town. However those places were fully booked this time so we opted for the Wheatley Arms which is just over a mile away from Ilkley town centre in Ben Rydding. I'm really glad we did as we found it very pleasant and excellent value for money too.

We arrived around lunchtime - a good hour before check in time. Our room was very nearly ready but we were enticed to stay and have a spot of lunch anyway as the bar looked lovely and our welcome was so warm. In fact, we hadn't realised that the Wheatley Arms is linked to both The Spread Eagle at Sawley and The Tempest at Elslack both of which are near where we live and are wonderful pubs.

For lunch we ordered the antipasti platter to share, with side orders of onion rings and skinny fries. The platter was presented so well and was really delicious. Lovely olives, mozzarella, cured meats, salads and tasty bread oozing with garlic. After the great food we went up to our room - I must admit I was really surprised at how nice it was. Mainly because we had only paid £80 for it.. A huge four poster bed in a roomy space that had a sofa, desk, wardrobes (that I noticed a heater and a fan in - handy although we didn't use them), oh and a fridge - I like it when hotel rooms have a fridge. The ensuite had a brilliant shower in it. My husband is tall at 6ft 7" and he thought it was amazing - it was one of those rain showers and it was set up quite high so he didn't have to duck under. We stayed in room 7 - just up one small flight of stairs.

Erm, what else... It was just over £4 to get a taxi into Ilkley town centre. Staff were really professional and warm. Breakfast in the morning was very tasty and it was served until 10am which is nice and leisurely. We'd come back again very happily. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on your recent stay with us!

It was great to hear that you enjoyed it so much, as you rightly pointed out although we are situated just outside of Ilkley town centre, it is in walking distance or alternatively a short taxi ride or even accessible by a regular train service from Ben Rhydding.

I'm please your husband was able to enjoy our rain shower, it's one of my favourite features and all the rooms have one!

We look forward to welcoming you both back soon!

Kind Regards

even though we live locally we decided to stayover after dinner and we weren't disappointed by the room and breakfast. After visiting for meals with the children this was intended as a one off, maybe we'll have to stayover again.

Dined at The Wheatley tonight with a few friends. Though most of the staff were great one waitress was unbelievably rude to a friend. Once again the food was decidedly average. I think it's ok if you are a meat eater but the vegetarian fare is boring and pretty tasteless. The service is always very slow. They are busy because they are the only eating place within walking distance of Ben Rhydding. Better to get a cab to town though and have enjoyable food and good service.

Room Tip: Didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback on your recent meal at the Wheatley Arms

I was very disappointed to hear that one of our staff members was rude to your friend and made her feel unwelcome. We pride ourselves on being community focused and providing a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere to all our guests. I can only apologise that this did not happen on your recent visit and I have used your comments in our regular team meeting to illustrate this point.

With regards to vegetarian options we have recently launched our new summer menu which we feel offers a broader range of dishes and options. Our new menu is available to view on our website, and hopefully on your next visit you will see the improvements we have made

We wanted to stay for one night near to Ilkley but I didn't start to look for accommodation until two days before we were due to arrive in the area. I got a shock to see that nearly everywhere was fully booked. Feeling that I had no time to research as thoroughly as I would normally like to do, I quickly clicked on an available room in this hotel.

By the way - hotels in the area will be even more in demand on 4th and 5th July this year because of the 'grand départ' of the Tour de france.

The room was lovely.... it was not decorated in traditional 'hotel-style' but had a crisper, more modern look. Lovely bathroom, also (I did point out in the hotel's questionnaire that something more substantial than voile at the window would be preferable - but don't think that is sufficient to downgrade my rating).

We had not intended to eat in the restaurant but, having arrived a bit later than expected, we decided to book a table - the really helpful and friendly young staff members managed to juggle things and they got us a table within twenty minutes (it was a Friday evening). The menu was excellent and the food was cooked to order and delicious.

One further thing - there was a DVD and large flat screen TV - so we sorted out our own viewing for the evening ('Breaking Bad) - which was better than relying on what was on television!

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback on your recent stay with us

It was lovely to hear how much you enjoyed your evening at the Wheatley Arms, particularly as you only booked it a couple of days before! We are actually about to commence some 'touching up' on the interiors and are looking to install some blinds in the bathroom of Room 5.

As you quite rightly pointed out most hotels in the area are fully booked for the Tour de France coming through Ilkley & Ben Rhydding on the first weekend in April, however there are a number of campsites operating in the are as well, nearby to us on the route the Ben Rhydding Sports Club are operating such a campsite over the weekend which may be of interest to people.

We are all so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

My wife and I have stayed at the Wheatley Arms twice now. We have also stayed at the other Inns in the Company. Our recent stay at the Wheatley was as before, excellent. We always come away feeling relaxed, well rested, and really well fed. A large part of the success of this Inn as well as others in the group is the quality of the staff, they are welcoming and professional in the way they relate to customers and seem to really put themselves out to make your stay an enjoyable one. The Wheatley is classy without being pretentious and this is reflected in both the rooms and the food offering. Ilkley is a great location for site seeing and falls within easy reach
of the beautiful Yorkshire dales but also within the business conurbation of Leeds and Harrogate.
My only reservation about writing such a glowing report for this and other individual inns is that
it will serve only to make it harder for me to secure a booking!

Room Tip: All rooms are nice but those on upper levels can get a little warm

Two nights last week on a golfing break and a very pleasant surprise. This is a working pub with an enthusiastic local support and excellent little hotel. Comfortable room was spotless but quite a climb up a rather steep stair to the second floor, might be worth asking for lower. But food made it special. Imaginative menu, informal setting of the bar or more formal in a restaurant booth. Excellent wines at realistic price was a great feature.
Breakfast was individually prepared and perfect.
Warm welcome, could not have been more helpful.

Room Tip: First floor makes sense if you have a heavy case

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave some feedback on your recent visit to the Wheatley Arms.

It was lovely to hear that you had enjoyed your stay so much; as you quite rightly pointed out there are quite a few stairs to get up to the second floor (but worth it when you do!), and we are always happy to advise guests on which rooms are more accessible and can allocate them accordingly.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!
