“Pleasant surprise!”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We had a nights break bought as a gift and after reading some of the reviews on here, we had prepared ourselves for "below par" stay. We couldn't have been further from the truth.
The place is beautiful, clean and spacious. It's quirky with character - not like chain hotels or cheap and cheerful Travelodges. Our room was perfect, clean, bright, great bathroom and comfy bed.
We ate in the restaurant - brilliant 3 courses, high standard food!
The staff, without exception, were friendly and welcoming. A credit to the hotel.
Previous reviews are way off the mark ..... I will be returning and recommending!
Thank you.

Went up to stay just for one night. Check in was quick and simple and the room was clean, large in size and adequate in its facilities, though showing its age. It was cold and wet outside and though the heating was on the curtains shut the heat into the single glazed bay windows and the bathroom had no heating. (We went out and left the curtains and bathroom door open, which solved both problems.)
We dined in the hotel's restaurant and was offered a reasonable range of meals at reasonable prices. (The drinks weren't bad either.) The staff were all very attentive and helpful. The bed was comfy and we slept well.
In the morning we had breakfast in the same place and were very happy with the range of items available. (It was a buffet style affair, but we prefer that.).
Check out was as simple as check in and we left happy. We would have had no concerns staying for a week.

Second time staying at this hotel and it won't be my last. Nothing is too much trouble for the very pleasant and friendly staff. The food was excellent with very good service and I had a really nice sleep in a comfortable room.
I look forward to returning in the near future.

Just came back from a one night stay in Ilkley, nice old hotel, nicely renovated. The room was nice, the bathroom enormous. Two minor things here, a little more space to put things down in the bathroom would be nice, and one side of the bed had no bedside table (because there was no room) but as I said minor things. Except for the lady who checked us out, the rest looked pretty stern, and that includes the people in the restaurant. The smiley ones were the cleaning staff.
The menu was a little compact, but what was served was good. I had issues with my steak, but I always do, so I was not really going to mention that, but the maitre d' solved this nicely.
So all in all a nice stay at the hotel.

Room Tip: ask for the room over the entrance

Like some reviews on this hotel the staff are all very good the room did what it said that's it had a bed,tv,bathroom.it missed blackout blinds as at 6am ish the sun was coming in to wake us up nice but not on a Sunday my day off and the doors bang every time someone came in and out.the hotel needs some money spending on it to bring it up to date.it still has potential to be one of the best around.the food was ok (had breakfast) .i don't like putting on bad reviews so sorry if it comes across like I do

As a last minute decision me and my partner booked in at the Craiglands last weekend. We really enjoyed our short stay there. Food was great, staff friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed some nice walks and took in the beautiful scenery. A truly great short break. We look forward to returning and staying a little longer next time.
