“Peaceful in beautiful grounds”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

The working monastery with a beautiful rose garden, orchard and walled grounds made for a different sort of stay, but just what the doctor ordered. It's a place of peace and tranquility, so may not be best suited to younger families. The rooms were clean and recently painted, but possibly lacked a bit of character, with basic furnishings. Breakfast was included and in addition to toast and cereal you could have boiled eggs, fresh fruit & yoghurts - a help yourself arrangement. Although not visited the local pub is a 3 minute walk down the road. I'd recommend the hotel to foreign travellers who want to have a different/traditional experience of England.

We needed to find accommodation quickly and decided to give the monastery B&B a try, We were really pleasantly surprised and loved our experience. You are met by the 'guest monk' who was really lovely and made us immediately welcome. The B&B is in its own large house and the rooms are basic but have everything that you could need, breakfast is self service and you have a choice of cereals, toast, pastries and boiled eggs. You are left to get on with your own things and there is no sense of have to do anything religious, the 18 acre grounds are fantastic with a vegetable garden, orchard, rose garden and woods to explore. The monastery buildings are beautiful and we could not help but leave feeling peaceful and relaxed. What a bonus!

Room Tip: wooden floors so perhaps ask for a bedroom on the top floor

Stayed at the monastery on a retreat in August 2013. Greeted warmly on arrival, with full explanation of where to find things. Beautiful grounds and setting, with many places to explore. Perfect for a restful break; everything you need is at the monastery and you'll probably find that you don't need to pop out for anything. Tea and coffee making facilities available all day, with snacks and refreshments. Three meals a day, all tasty and varied between meat, veg and fruit, much of which is grown on-site. Comfortable, clean and basic no-frills room. Lots of comfortable lounges to sit in and read. Would definitely recommend to any CofE folk who want to getaway by themselves and recharge their batteries around a welcoming and friendly community.

Mirfield Monastery is a beautiful former Mill Owner’s House originally built in the 19th Century set in twenty acres of quiet gardens and woodlands. It is now the home of the Community of the Resurrection, an Anglican monastic order. Our bed and breakfast facility is located in the annexe building a short distance from the monastery. Those staying in the bed and breakfast annexe are welcome to enjoy the grounds and join the monks for worship in the church. Ideally located just off the M62 near Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax, in the heart of the Pennines - the enviable location of Mirfield Monastery offers excellent access and great countryside. Please note that we are unable to accept guests for check in between 17.30 and 18.45 as as the brethren are in worship. RETREAT HOUSE GUESTS: if you are wanting to book a place in the retreat house alongside the community please email or call us. The bed and breakfast is NOT the booking site for guests wanting to book into the retreat house. The Bed and Breakfast is on a split level site with beautiful grounds. We aim to meet the needs of all our guests but would like to highlight that there are some features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility: There are steps into the Bed and Breakfast; the bedrooms are all on the first and second floors and unfortunately no lift is available. ... more   less
