I have always wanted to visit Stonehenge and finally did so recently. Having seen numerous images of this monument I was surprised to see how small the stone circle actually was in reality. It is still a remarkable structure and the historical significance is vitally important. There is a very helpful audio handheld device which is free and provides a lot of information about the stones and site. Also the shuttle bus from the entrance to the site is very useful particularly to those who have trouble walking the mile or so to the site itself. This is also included in the price of the ticket. Even though the site is marked with a path for the spectators you can still get very close to the stones and have a really good view of them. There is a fee to park of £5.00 which is taken off the price of the ticket. In all the cost is £14.00 per person which I feel is a bit steep particularly if you are in a group or family. If a picnic area could be provided in the grounds nearby, this would be useful and allow people to stay longer because having seen the stones and visited the well stocked shop, there isn't much to do there.
