Reviewed 31 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel for one night in August 2011 as a family of four plus our dog. When we booked in the receptionist was very business like but not as friendly as she might have been. We were given the keys to our room and were pleasantly surprised when we saw it. As a family room it was spacious with a very comfortable double bed (beautifully, soft and fluffy duvets and pillows) and a large sofa bed for the children. The bathroom was lovely and clean with lots of clean white towels. We had a quiet night despite a wedding reception going on downstairs and our room facing the main road. The room had a tv (which kept tuning out!) and tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast was a self service buffet which would have been better with a member of staff on hand to help out (especially with the toaster!) but other than that it was perfectly acceptable. The only drawback is that there is no parking at the hotel so you have to pay to park in the public car park across the street. We paid £105 for a family room including breakfast and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

the room was like a cave, dirty and stinky in top to arrive up there we need to go up a kind of chicken head. The window couln't be closed, because the frame was too old.
The bathroom was dirty, a big red mark on the floor, the showerbassin was yellow and the shower cabin dirty and it doesn't closed. the window was not abel to be opend.
They told us, that there would be internet in the room, we had to go to the livingroom to receive internet acsess.
The breakfast was terrible, no choise for persons who like to have an continental breakfast.

Room Tip: never take room 49

I stayed overnight at the Antrobus following a friends wedding. The hotel is a bit tired, but it is also charming, and full of character. The staff did a great job of making it one of the best days that a person can have in thier life. Terrific garden, really pretty, and the children loved it. I think everyone in the wedding party had a great time, which despite the niggles (like no loo paper in bathroom), seriously outweighed any whinges.

We only stayed at the Antrobus Hotel because it was a Saturday and there were no other rooms available in the area that night. The only room they had left was a "superior" room which was more expensive than we would have liked but we had no choice but to accept it and I thought we were getting something special. On arrival we were very disappointed by the look of the place - the entrance and reception area were very shabby and in need of a lick of paint. However worse was to come when we saw the room we had been allocated. The curtain was hanging off the rail, the carpet obviously hadn't been cleaned, the shower screen was dirty, there were no hangers in the wardrobe. the cover of the light above the bathroom sink was missing. there was polysterene cups in the bathroom and there was only one mug for the tea/coffee. There were too many things to complain that night so I waited until we were checking out in the morning. The man on the desk was not really interested, only saying that he had personally replaced the hangers in the wardrobe recently. I queried how the room was "superior" and was informed that it was bigger than the others. There was no offer to reduce the rate we had been quoted so we had to pay up and put it down to experience. I understand the Beatles had stayed there in the past but that must have been nearly 50 years ago when the hotel no doubt was in its heyday. In our haste to leave I left a jacket behind but when I phoned the next day I was informed that while they had found the jacket it was not their policy to forward articles left behind even though I offered to send the postage in advance! Out of all the hotels/B&Bs we stayed in during our week's holiday it was by far the worst and most expensive.

Son had wedding reception here last weekend and the customer service was terrible. They got the wrong meal (Ploughmans ordered but beef roast was brought out). Brides mother had to act as waitress and ask guests wether they wanted to stick with the roast or have the original choice of ploughmans. whilst this was happening no apology was offered. Forgot to put sweets provided the previous day out on tables. Forgot to put out cup cakes provided the previous day for evening buffet (which was pretty average and cold meats promised were missing). Hotel has character but needs decoration desperately. Carpets dirty and in poor condition. Garden is very nice but 3 piles of dog poo on lawn. Majority of the staff were rude and unhelpfull and complained about the noise from the disco - what did they expect it was a wedding. The only positive comment that I can make is good selection of real ales at the bar.

My friend and I stayed for one night at the Antrobus. Our room was lovely very cosy however the bathroom specifically the shower was extremely disappointing as the photos show. I think I felt cleaner before I went in ! However this was only a minor point. The beer garden was beautiful and all the staff were very friendly and the breakfast very tasty. All in all a nice hotel but more attention to cleanliness especially on the stairs and of course the shower and disgusting bath mat would have made it that little bit better.
