“Wonderful bed and breakfast !”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

We have just returned from a lovely stay here and what a wonderful place. From the moment we were greeted we felt like we were in a special place. Its a glorious old building lovingly maintained by the owners. Our room was on the ground floor and was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. All of the staff we encountered were great and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a real highlight and served in a gorgeous cellar . If you are looking for a spa or boutique hotel this might not be for you however if you are looking for a great b and b with good old fashioned British service you'll love the fairlawn.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It was excellent. The food was great. The near by Pubs were also great. The room was of decent size for Europe. We were in the top most room so the shower was a bit cramped. But who cares. You are only in the shower for 15 minutes. If we are ever back in the area. We will definitely stay there again.

I chose this B&B based on reviews, which gave it a rating of 9.1, however I feel this was undeserved. On the positive side the food was excellent, but there were too many negatives to rate it as more than average, although it comes at a superior price. The room was on the ground floor, far from the front door, with two more doors in between, but every time the front door closed, with a bang, it caused the bedroom door to reverberate loudly. While the power shower was nice, if a bit cramped, it was impossible to get hot water from the basin tap and having to use the kettle to get hot water. The light above the basin was not working and I reported it, but it was never fixed. The room itself was quite small and in need of redecoration. A top sheet on the bed would be appreciated. Perhaps others who have given good reviews have stayed in upstairs rooms, but I have definitely stayed in better for less and for a couple of pounds more I have stayed in a real 5 star establishment in Ely, the Riverside Inn.

Room Tip: Don't take a room on the ground floor,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay. We are sorry you were disappointed - we are a big family-run B&B and really don’t promise to be anything we are not, but our many great reviews may have lead you to expect a higher level experience. The problem with the bathroom light was not reported to either my husband or myself direct or we would have rectified it immediately – we will take this up with the weekend staff and we will also look into the other issues you have raised. The Riverside Inn at Ely does indeed look very nice but it is 170 miles from here and therefore subject to very different market forces which would affect value and pricing.

What a find and what a treasure! On the outside,Fairlawn House is an older building, under renovation on a street also in transformation. Walk through the front door, however, and you have entered the results of a labor of love by owners Keith and Tracy Pullen. The result is a warm, welcoming atmosphere in a B&B that has been refurbished to include wonderful sleeping accommodations to modern bath , etc. The overriding result is the friendliness of the owners and staff in a gem of a place to stay within minutes of Stonehenge and Salisbuty.

There is nothing much to criticise about our two night stay at this family run B & B on a main street in Amesbury. If you are visiting Stonehenge, about 15 minutes way, it provides adequate, if reasonably expensive, accommodation. The owners are very friendly and helpful, the bedrooms clean and comfortable, and the breakfast excellent. Parking could be a problem if you wanted to leave your car parked after 9 am and the local disco was noisy until 1:30 am; otherwise a very pleasant stay.

Amesbury is an extremely convenient base for visiting Stonehenge, Durrington Walls and a little further afield Avebury and Silbury. We had a very comfy stay at Fairlawn House. Found Parking easy right outside, and had the most friendly welcome which made us feel very happy with our choice of B&B. Our room was nice and quiet and adequately equipped with tea, coffee, a TV. Just what you would expect. Breakfast was exceptionally good.

Amesbury isn't a very remarkable place. There are places to eat and drink but nothing to write home about. It's greatest merit is that it's near Stonehenge. And if you need a place to stay, you'd be very comfy, welcome (and well fed at breakfast time) here.

Stayed one night and so pleased we chose Fairlawn. From the inital telephone enquiry onwards we experienced great service. A lovely house, comfortable stay and great breakfast.

We will always try to stay here when we are in the area. Being in the hospitality industry ourselves we really appreciated being guests at another quality establishment. Thank you.

Room Tip: We had a double room, which although wasn't huge was perfectly adequate with nice shower room. C...
