George Hotel
Ranked #3 of 3 Amesbury B&B and Inns
Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

Stayed here last night on our way to London from Dorchester in order to go see Stonehenge. The location is ideal in the heart of Amesbury and only a 15 minute drive to Stonehenge. The staff was very friendly and we love Stuart. The hotel is definitely not a roach motel a but it is also not a Hilton.

I gave an average review due to the fact that the rooms were fairly small and definitely very outdated. That being said if you like an old style B & B with a traditional British style staying above a pub, then this place is perfect for you. It is very well priced in comparison to other hotels in the area and prefect for a night maybe two at most. The Wifi did not work on the upper floors making it really hard to do work as we were on a business trip.

If your not looking for too fancy and are not too fussy about great amenities, then this place is right for you.

This is a quaint, old, little hotel in a very quiet town that was very close to Stonehenge. Very convenient. The people were nice, the breakfast was ok. The beds were not that great and our room had visible mold around the windows. I wanted to rate it a 3 but just couldn't. I'm giving it a 2 rating just because of the location. We got up and got done with Stonehenge before the rush started. That was worth it. One night here won't kill you, but I wouldn't do 2.

Quirky hotel full of History. The room was not very clean and the carpet was stained. Didn't help having a cigarette end stubbed in one of the cups in the room, presumably by the person that cleaned the room. Staff were friendly enough and the food was ok.

Went here for Mother's Day and well let's just say what a worst place I have used!!! Tho the food was very nice and nice to see lamb on the menu... :) the only good thing about the day. The service of what little we received was terrible. Not enough staff on to cope with the amount of people. And at the end of the meal when we was still eating was sort of asked to leave

This is an odd one. It's huge. There is so much character in this building. The history is simply amazing and yet they make almost nothing of it. There's a museum in the hotel you know! Almost no explanation of what would otherwise be an excellent bonus. The welcome wasn't exactly overwhelming. The bar service was. Just a shame they had ran out of most of the drinks! The breakfast service was friendly but making my own toast never appeals. My guess would be that its reliant on coach party business for nearby Stonehenge. It is certainly tired in places but has the potential to be simply outstanding. The rooms are great with everything you need apart from the wafer thin pillows.

Room Tip: We stayed on Sunday night, road was quiet. Room in the rafters of the old building had so much chara...

have just spent two days at the George hotel visiting sites with a group- the rooms were comfortable- and clean, as were the beds - and the facilities..and the prices were reasonable too!I t was a bit noisy at night - but bearable- and it was so good to talk to local people- and enjoy the aviation museum...which is in the hotel. Glad we stayed there as it made a great base to visit Stonehenge and Devizes, for the Wiltshire Museum. Breakfast was great!!

Room Tip: the top floor is quietest on a weekend..

just had a overnight stay at the George and found the whole place excellent very warm welcome and the whole place is charming. we had a force 9 gale blowing outside but the hotel is warm as toast with huge open log fires burning a real charm. our room was spotless and the bed very comfy even after last nights gales I slept like a log. this hotel is a real gem full of history will certainly return the location is also a plus right in the heart of the town and our breakfast was spot on more than ample full English and help yourself to tea coffee fruit juice toast and cereal.this place gets my vote.
