“Third stay in this fabulous hotel”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Another terrific stay in this fabulous hotel. The welcome at reception is genuine and warm and a nice touch to have a card from the General Manager with fresh strawberries in our room - very thoughtful and much appreciated.
The Spa is ideal for a relax after a round of golf on the excellent course (shame the weather and my game were wild and stormy !!).
The food is excellent and very tasty in quality surroundings - have a pre dinner drink in the library by the fire!
The rooms are excellent and great to have wifi available !
All the staff here are well trained and attentive - we had another great stay.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your fresh strawberries and your return visit.
The Spa is the ideal place to relax, sorry to hear about the weather (and your game!), you need to book your fourth stay with us, and hopefully the weather will be on your side.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Bowood.

This is one of my favourite places to go for a couple of days of golf and a stay in a fantastic hotel. The golf course was in fantastic condition and is a very good test. Evertything about our stay in the hotel was first class, from the room to the evening dinner and the use of the spa facilities. I would prefer breakfast to be cooked to order as I'm not a fan of buffets but that is just nit picking.
I would highly recommend Bowood and I look forward to my next visit already!

Easy to understand why this place is so well reviewed. The hotel, food, service and leisure facilities are excellent and the golf course is great too! Spacious well equiped bedroom. No wonder this was not my first, nor hopefully last, visit! Good value

Arrived to the absolutely stunning Bowood Hotel. Check-In smooth (Though no offer of help with bags). Our room was beyond beautiful, all the mods and cons and a stunning view. Spa facilities are great, and the view was again amazing. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic in all aspects, it was so nice to get so excited about a menu and the service was brilliant. It was an absolute delight to go back up to our lovely room, full and completely relaxed.

We were going to be truly decadent and have breakfast in bed, however the £5.50 EACH tray charge seemed a little expensive....opted to go down for breakfast instead.

Breakfast was ok, brilliant cold buffet selection. I was a little disapointed that breakfast was not cooked to order, and by the time we went up, there were no fried eggs. After the huge effort put into the menu and service in the evening, it was a little bit of a let down. Still a good quality breakfast, but did not have the wow factor we thought it would have.

We had booked spa treatments. My partner had a lovely relaxing time and would readily recommend. Instead of being in a proper treatment room i was taken upto one of the Hotel bedrooms that had all of the kit. However, rather than the relaxing atmosphere my partner had experienced, i had a radio blaring rather than relaxing music, and the cleaning team hoovering and accidentaly smashing a glass in the room next door. There was at one point someone shouting down the corridor. I'm not going to lie, this is something a little tricky to raise when you only have a towel covering your modesty! ;-)

This meant that i came out more wound up then when i went in. When i raised this with someone in the Spa they did take £10 off the bill, though i still paid £20 for a massage that was not relaxing... I would have readily paid more and had the experience i wanted, so please don't think its me being tight. But after spending a total of more then £400 in 24hours at the hotel, i did leave feeling a little sad that such a silly thing could spoil an otherwise brilliant stay.

We would come back, but i would not bother with a treatment again, and just enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

Thank you for writing your review. I have discussed your issues raised with your treatment with our Spa Manager and we are reviewing our procedures. I do hope that when you return to Bowood, you will book in for another treatment and this time you will feel as relaxed as your partner.

We have just returned from a wonderful night at Bowood and had to write a review to let people know.

We only booked our visit on a whim the day before as both of us needed a bit of R&R. Having compared hotels in other parts of the country, we realised that the facilities on our doorstep (we live less than an hour away) were better than we were going to get travelling two+ hours. We weren't wrong!

Arrival and check in was a pleasant, informal yet professional experience, with everything about the spa and hotel explained up front. When we went upstairs to our room, we were delighted to find the 'luxury double' we had booked was precisely that. A larger than average room, with a seriously comfy king size bed, an amazing bathroom, and extra special additions like robes and slippers for the spa, homemade cookies, and a great selection of teas and cafetiere coffee.

The next surprise was the spa. The perfect combination of fitness and relaxation. My personal favourite was the high tech gym and pool, but for those that love to relax, the saunas, jacuzzi and loungers are perfect. By the end of our visit, we had more than made the most of those facilities. We are even considering becoming members just so we can go back for the day often.

After our workout, we headed for the Brasserie. We opted for this instead of the restaurant for dinner because we felt more like sitting in an informal environment than a more formal one. Again, this didn't disappoint. The menu, although not extensive, was perfect for us. And the two meals we ordered - the burger and chicken breast - were beautiful. Not to mention the service was great - a really relaxing and friendly place. After dinner, we retired to the hotel bar to end the evening. The selection of whiskey on offer was to die for (quite a find for ex pat scots) and the price was a pleasant surprise too - for a hotel bar.

The overnight experience was also a good one. The bed was lovely, although a tiny bit soft for someone with a lower back problem, and the sheets were crisp, clean and luxurious. It was the first lie in we had had in ages, so quite a treat to wake up and stay there for a while.

The plan was to have another visit to the gym and pool first thing, but we were delighted to find our visit included access to the spa, etc all day. So, instead we opted for breakfast first. And, again, a great meal and our opportunity to experience the restaurant. Between us I think we had a bit of everything... well, it was a buffet and we had an energetic day planned! The fruit selection was extensive and lovely, the pastries were fresh and the cooked breakfast included the best sausage I've ever had.

After having another chill out in our room, thanks to a successful request for a late check out, we took a walk through the beautiful grounds to Bowood House and Gardens. This is a really nice walk suitable for anyone, including wheelchair users. However, the map they give you and the direction signs do make it quite confusing. Just aim for hole one on the golf course then stick to the concrete. No matter what! 15 minutes and one slight detour later, we made it to Bowood. This is a great spot for a walk around the beautiful grounds and a coffee, so is not to be missed while staying at the hotel.

Overall, an amazing 24 hours that could only have been topped if we could have stayed longer. I honestly can't say a single bad thing about our time there. 10 out of 10 all the way. For those living local seeking somewhere for an overnight escape without the long drive and for those travelling from further afield looking for a spot of luxury in the Wiltshire countryside, look no further.

Visited the stylish Spa as a girly treat for a day. Beautiful grounds. On arrival had a drink in the café area, before being given our robes and slippers and shown around. Staff pleasant but could have taken more trouble to explain arrangement and working such as how to turn on the jaccussi. Quiet on a Thursday, so had pool virtually to ourselves. Also available were treatments as per brochure , sauna, steam room and rain forest style shower experience. Lunch was amazing in doshi boxes and smoothies above average.

We had our Silver Wedding Anniversary with a group if friends. The staff were very attentive and attention to detail was adhered to throughout. The food was fantastic, the private dining room was superb as was the waiting staff.and bar staff who looked after us all night. The rooms are spacious clean and modern. Highly recommend the hotel for a party, as you can play golf, go to the house or just chill in the spa. Well worth a visit and we love to go back gain.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a golf view if possible.
