This pub-hotel has an excellent location, and the potential to be so much better.
Right now, though, the name says it all: I stayed on a Saturday night and was dismayed to find that the restaurant was closed, my room was somewhat down-at-heel (eg, the bathroom light didn't work), and the entire place needed a deep-clean and re-decoration.
In fairness, the staff were all welcoming and helpful.
The bed was good, so I had a good night's sleep. But breakfast was not a great experience. I entered the bar to find two of the previous night's drinkers stil slumped in their seats. Despite their hospitable enthusiasm, the staff served me an over-cooked breakfast.
Not surprising, perhaps, that I was one of very few guests that Saturday evening. But it could have been different.
Hey-ho - I've stayed at worse places, and at £49 it did the job!
I just wish that whoever owns this place could see what an opportunity they have to make it a far better businesss by investing in a deep-clean, redecoration, and a re-think of their business model. That could very well include a re-think of the name: for the moment "he Bug & Spider" is all too accurate - and not very appealing!More
