“New Resaurant opening night”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

The Ivey has refurbished their restaurant and we went for the opening night. The new décor is really great with a lovely theme and many tributes to people called Henry - in line with the Wadworth Brewery history.
The service was attentive without being intrusive with good explanation of the dishes on offer and flexibility to ensure we all had exactly what we wanted, even catering for a gluten free friend.
The food was well presented, top quality and was absolutely delicious. Between the 4 of us we all had something different and each of us were equally impressed with our choices, needless to say there were 4 clean plates when we finished.
Another good thing is that there is not just the usual selection of 'cheap' pub wine but some really good quality wine at reasonable prices too.
The bill was reasonable considering the quality of the food and wine and the ambience is relaxing and not over the top.
A great evening was had by all and we'll be back again soon.
Many thanks to all the team at the Ivy for making the effort to make this a super place to go whether just for a drink or for dinner with all the trimmings.

Definitively would recommend the snapper and shepherds pie pie - both excellent and the service was very friendly and attentive.

“Wonderful Sunday lunch!”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

We opened the door to a traditional country pub, heaving with locals enjoying a cask ale at the bar and diners chatting over the days Remembrance services. We were welcomed in the bar and shown to our table near to the beautiful roaring fire.
A charming mix of eighties and nineties music gently playing in the background while we browsed through the large selection on the menu. Definitely something for everyone but being a Sunday, it had to be a roast, especially after seeing the Yorkshire puddings go past to another table.
We started with a generous pot of duck liver and orange pate with fresh bread and caramlised onion, it was so nice and I wanted more than just a taste! I had the sweet potato wedges, delicately seasoned/spiced with a gorgeous sour cream dip.
The roast beef came with fresh vegetables, duck fat roasted potatoes, lashings of gravy and the old faithful yorkie, my 3 year old son had the child’s roast which somehow he managed to polish off most of the plate of chicken, yorkie, potatoes, stuffing and vegetables. It was huge, but he must have enjoyed it! I was extremely happy with my mammoth seafood pie full of salmon, scallops and prawns surrounded by a creamy white wine sauce and topped with beautiful piped potato.

Even though we were so full, it would have rude not to have a dessert. A delicious sticky toffee pudding with custard, the best crème brulee with homemade shortbread biscuits and strawberries I have ever had (and I’ve had a few!) and our little boy somehow devoured 3 scoops of chocolate ice-cream .

After dinner, we realized that by the door there was a selection of toys, puzzles and books for the kids but our little boy was enjoying his meal so much, we didn’t really need them!

Beautiful location, lovely welcoming staff, children catered for, gorgeous food and great value for money, what more could you ask for?
Can’t wait to go again!

“Excellent - really enjoyed it”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

I believe that this place has new owners since earlier this year (not the "old" new owners who I believe managed the place briefly in 2012), so I would ignore the earlier terrible reviews. Anyway the current team certainly know what they are doing - the place was busy when we turned up - it looks like the locals are back!
We were up from London on a horse-riding week-end at nearby Bells Farm Western riding and they recommended this place for dinner. Great recommendation, very warm welcome, roaring log fire, great ales and excellent food (be warned the portions are massive), and a great value for money wine list. We had a really enjoyable evening there - a proper traditional pub and we will definitely be back (the horse riding at Bells Farm was incredible by the way!)
