I arrange walking holidays and am a guide and was checking out the Mayfield Hotel as a possible base for walking groups.
I found the staff to be extremely friendly and they went out of their way to be helpful and considerate.
The bedroom was scrupulously clean and the bed was very comfortable. Each of the rooms in this lovely old house is different and mine had an extra large bathroom. What a luxury.
The food was also very good, dinner was delicious and the breakfast cooked to a 'T'.
Overall an excellent place to stay and close to lovely walking areas along the Cotswold Edge, the upper reaches of the River Thames and the Wiltshire Downs.

Arriving after a long drive, the welcome was warm, and we were shown to our rooms. We had dinner at a local pub and on our return settled down for a few quiet drinks at the bar. The bar manager has an extensive and impressive knowledge of fine spirits and even assisted with the final wedding preparations. The room, when we finally retired to it, was comfortable and clean and the breakfast the following morning was just what was required. Overall, I'd struggle to find fault. The friendly atmosphere really made it a stay I'll remember!

We stayed last weekend with our little Bolognese dog Jazmin, and were welcomed like we were royalty.
We were taken to our room, which from past experiences at other hotels, does NOT happen , u just get given your key and told where to go.
A table was laid for us in a quiet part of the bar, which enabled us to take Jazmin down to breakfast and dinner, so all you doggy people ,please pay them a visit, as it is a TRUE DOGGY HOTEL, however, do not be put off, as most people eat in the restaurant where dogs are not allowed.
The food is excellent , they obviously have a top notch chef, lovely a la carte menu, and breakfast is freshly cooked AND with a good quality sausage ( many places let themselves down with poor quality sausage- sorry , one of my pet hates !
So, a 3* hotel , with 5* service and food, hence, we have booked up again to go this weekend too,
Thank you all , and keep up the good work !!

Room Tip: They have 5 doggy rooms, so you need to book up to avoid disappointment

What a wonderful surprise, the courtyard room we stayed in was beautiful, normally when a dog is travelling with you, you are normally put in the scruffy room where the dog hair doesn't show. However, we were treated as VIP's, the staff couldn't do enough for us and the room was immaculate. The breakfast table was laid in the snug so our dog come to breakfast. Breakfast wasn't huge but it was good quality and the staff were very attentive. The duty Manager was friendly and helpful as were all the staff. If you want a romantic getaway, or a classy place to base yourself while you explore the beautiful countryside I would highly recommend the Mayfield and I am very fussy.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard room be aware the bathroom is a wet room.
