My wife and I stayed one Saturday night in mid-February 2014. Previous reviewers have described it as "shabby chic" and we would agree, mainly due to worn stair carpet and a couple of chairs in the main lounge although it is a spotlessly clean establishment and sited in very pleasing and tidy grounds. All staff were particularly attentive and a log fire in the lounge completed a welcoming ambience.
Our room was light, bright and warm with a very comfortable Queen size bed (two single divans bolted together) and flat screen TV. The tea and coffee making facility was a communal affair outside the room on a table on the landing. I did not encounter other guests (or George Clooney) when I used it but the posh coffee-making machine makes a hell of a din if you occupied the nearest room!
Unfortunately, the hot water to our shower failed during our stay and was overcome by being given the key to another room nearby that was not occupied and it proved to be a satisfactory solution.
Without question, the highlight was dinner in the main dining room which was outstanding in its quality and presentation. A hearty breakfast in the morning was just as expected and when checking out, a very creditable discount was given (without asking) for the inconvenience of having no hot water in the shower and which was very much appreciated.
All in all a very pleasant stay and is recommended.
