Description: As the original Bistro in Devizes (established 2003) we pride ourselves on being true to the original concept - that is a small, family run establishment (usually with a chef owner) providing a menu that often features slow cooked, seasonal dishes. The setting is traditional in that it is informal, relaxed and cosy. However, we are known for food that 'tickles the tastebuds', is influenced by a range of cuisines and always has The Bistro 'twist" to it. Open both at lunch time and in the evening, we have the distinction of also running a cookery school, now known as Vaughan's Cookery School and operating from another location in the town. Committed to sharing a passion for good food, Chef Peter Vaughan is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and of the Slow Food Movement.

“Fantastic Basque Food”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

What can I say we need "The Bistro" to come to Frome!
Amazing slow cooked pork with crispy chorizo, lamb meatballs with delicately spiced cauliflower and potatoes and not to mention the deserts.
I was lucky enough to taste the new dark chocolate desert before it was added to the menu and it was absolutely gorgeous, definitely recommend you go and try it!
Peter and his team are true foodies, just hearing them talk about future dishes it is clear they are truly obsessed with food, which makes for an amazing experience for us diners!

“Yummy lunch snack”

My favourite stop off while in Devizes on a market day in summer, Peter does fabulous takeaway pitas and wraps on the pavement, falafels or meatballs with scrumptious salads and fillings, all with an explanation of the ingredients and where they came from.

“Fantastic food”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Had the pleasure of having a meal at The Bistro twice in one month. Food as usual up to a high standard. but this is not the only reason to go. It is the attention Pete and his staff give you. The interesting ways they prepare the food. The obvious enthusiasm they still have for entertaining their clients. So one full meal and then how great is this a pre theatre meal specially done to coincide with a performance at St Mary's church theatre.

“disappointing and expensive for what you get”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

We had high expectations but were disappointed. We were seated in the cellar, not very cosy; the glasses were dirty (dish-washer). Had a diner of the special menu (north spain, basque county): the starter was a sharing tapas platter for two which was so small, only 7 or 8 different little bites and that for 2 adults!; the main dish was ok but not special, as was the wine (white rioja). We didn't stay for a dessert; a decent pub nearby (try the royal oak at easterton) is a better option for this money (23 pounds a person for 2 courses).
